power steering belt

How do you know it's time to replace a power steering belt? Is there collateral damage if it snaps while you're driving? My ride is seven years old, by the way. Thanks!

remove it and invert. check for cracks on the v grooves. there are times na wala ring crack pero maingay na kahit anong tension ang gawin - kung baga nag-iislip na. depending still on the vehicle, ps belt is not that expensive naman so replace it narin kung matagal na sya. 7 years is sulit na for an aux belt. damage wise, masama sa ps rack and pinion ang walang pressure ang fluid so better have replace nalang. usually naman a/c saka ps ang magkasama so you shouldn't have further engine problems unless this ps belt is also connected to the water pump.

Thanks for the reply. Pinapapalitan na nga ng casa ang power steering belt, aircon belt, and alternator belt all at the same time. Talaga bang sabay-sabay ang palit sa kanila? Around 5k ang estimate for everything. Is it reasonable? Thanks again.

5k is too much from the stealership :P

depends din kung anong kotse, but 5k is still too much for an average car. in my case, mitsu glx, i only have 2 aux belts: ps/ac and waterpump/alternator. total cost of belts iirc 1,2k. labor is free... diy
