Outreach
: In countless ways
Defining the word that was best known for 2009...

The act or an instance of reaching out as well as the act of extending services, benefits, to a wider section of the population, as in community work is the right and proper definition of the term Outreach from a leading online dictionary. But knowing The Strada Club of the Philippines (TSCP), I feel its meaning can lead to club activities that extend to external resources and institutions. After the Club's anniversary Eyeball last December 29, 2008 The Band of Strada Brothers (BOSBs) thought that reaching out was my best way to describe it as we entered 2009.

Outreach to the Media:
TSCP’s official Media Exposure was great with the country's leading Car Magazine: Top Gear. It was on a sunny morning on February 21 at the same lot of Fellow BOSB Arvin Cristi's where about 35 BOSBs new and current alike crammed up to make it to the Lens. Writer Sharleen together with Staff Hazel and Photographer Charles felt the wrath of our in-house disease Stradaphilia with more than the usual antics that led to being one of the topics of their published article. There was much improvising in terms of getting Charles for his camera to get better view of the trucks as well as the members. As the trucks lined up to form an art installation, another pictorial was made together with the BOSBs. Flames the bottom the lot’s rolling terrain started to rise that led to BOSBs squirming to safer grounds as well as their lunch! The overall result can now be read at the Featured Car Club of Top Gear's May 2009 edition on page 46.

Outreach to other Clubs:
The club's highlight for March was the interclub meet co-hosted with Club Mazda3. Aside from the Introduction by the host clubs was a lecture for Auto Detailing, Fun and Games, the much coveted Awarding as well as the usual talk about the cars, accessories to name a few was the order of the day. This was also milestone wherein seven Montero Sport owners trooped together after much encouragement from TSCP members and officers to organize themselves to form a group. Another recently formed club that joined in was Club Outlander Philippines headed by Tsikoteer Mongaddi with ten members to start with and counting with their dedicated website for discussions. TSCP also acknowledged the presence of seven Montero Sport owners that later became Montero Sport Club of the Philippines headed by Tsikoteer Mic_21_ph.

Outreach to the Growth of the Chapters:
TSCP is not only concentrated in Metro Manila but in other areas as well. With Coordinators who volunteered to serve in their area: Ianmitsulancer (Baguio/Northern Luzon), Mdksael (South/Laguna), Boz (South/Laguna), Egaysky (Bohol), Out-101 and Tancho_Kuhaku (Cebu), Cyril_T and Nismo26 (Mindanao) it has helped the club to go beyond expectations to 130 to date by holding monthly get-togethers and helping our fellow members with their trucks.

Outreach to Cebu and the Sea:
Last April 17-20, ThePatriarch, av8or5 and DocGlen led the exodus of Dive Inspired BOSBs Pauland, Eslonblue with Kumander Tintoy, Bluemica with Kumander Takai, Homer and Manolo to Cebu. With Simon as their diving mentor, the certification for PADI Open Water was well earned. Since the start of the year, The Strada Club's Licensed Scuba Divers thread had been brewing with pictures, videos and aftermath discussions. With an irresistible pull to the sea again, follow-up activities happen with the timeliness of the summer season and the lure to Anilao's shorelines. With several BOSBs continuosly showing interest for the hobby, it seems that fun under the sea will never end- Rain or Shine. The Cebu Chapter also gained another member. Howard83 together with Chapter Coordinator Tancho_Kuhaku will continue to blaze Cebu's main streets with their club logo emblazoned Stradas.

Outreach to the Outdoors and others:
Aside from this were some significant club activities: January meant starting the year right as the BOSBs trooped to Fellow BOSB Arvin Cristi’s open lot at San Mateo, Rizal to conduct an open field Airsoft game- which was usually done at indoors or at a controlled environment. Pictorials showed a clear view of the Metropolis as the lot had a significant elevation above. As the BOSBs fooled around with guns, the Kumanders had the time of their lives with card games like 1-2-3-pass! It was also on this same lot that select BOSBs gave camping a try with more than the usual kwentuhan overnight.

Sir Pol-pol, as a treat to the club hosted a trip to his fishpond in Barrio San Nicolas, Bulacan, Bulacan. The BOSBs assembled at a nearby Shell station and exited at the NLEX Tabang exit to be welcomed by rustic surroundings, a banca ride, seafood delicacies and a walk around the lake. A surprising picture has also been posted on the threads otherwise known as the “evidence”.

Another notable Visit was Fellow BOSB Dadz who finally came back from Thailand to establish his line of business- from Bash Plates, Piggy Back systems to name a few. He and Kumander Tess were able to visit key cities during their visit to their Homeland as well as Baguio.

Also, another fellow BOSB ventured into accessories. Mdksael established Zombiewerks with his truck better known as Azul was his ramp model for his creations. BOSB trooped to his house in Sta Rosa, Laguna and installed bash plates and rear end hooks. But aside from that, the accessory that caught my attention was the Bumper Detonator.

The Seed of the Outreach:
With the goal to flourish as an on-line and as a thriving community was successfully met in less than a Year, the club was ready to spread the Stradaphilia by joining Tsikot’s yearly Grand Charity and Fun Run on May 9, 2009. It was initially a thought when Madam LadyRider created a thread at the Strada Club forums about toying the idea of joining Tsikot’s initiative. With no hesitation, BOSBs responded that this could be one of the events that the club can be involved with. Having missed out on Last year’s, it was timely for the BOSBs to make “bawi” with the officers giving a unified decision to participate this time. The BOSBs joined in together with Avanza Club Pilipinas and Team Dorfito. TSCP also contributed material donations for the benefit of the Bangon Rosenan Foundation.

A series of Dental and Medical Missions
TSCP teamed up with the Rotary Club of Las Pinas first on May 17, 2009 to render volunteer work from registration, dispense of medicines, sterilizing tools among others. With the two in-house doctors, plus the club’s doctor Ale828 and dentists: Docglen and Homer selflessly provided much needed dental treatment. It was also noted that there was a Lunch hosted AlainRoyce as well as a karaoke session. Another similar activity was on November 22, 2009 as the club teamed up again with the Rotary Club of Paranaque Metro and Holy Family Parish.

On July 4, 2009 another Medical and Dental Mission teamed up with the Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program (SSEAYP) Batch 2002 (Tambayayong Batch) in Capas, Tarlac. TSCP volunteered primarily on the hauling of equipment and manpower to assist in its operations with Docglen and Homer again for Dental care. After the successful mission, the participants rushed to the nearby riverbed near Mt. Pinatubo. With all the 4x4 Stradas successfully making it through, Doc Homer’s Tracker/Escudo submerged on the shallow bedrock and became the topic of discussion for months to come especially with water dousing from the tires that drenched one of Docglen’s assistants. It was followed by an Arroz Caldo break at Doc Homer’s Hacienda.

Outreach thru ABS-CBN:
As the BOSBs were trekking through Anilao and Coron, Metro Manila was caught unaware of a major downpour. Typhoon Ondoy hit landfall on September 26, 2009 leaving parts of the northern and eastern parts of the Metropolis with damage to life and property. TSCP was quick to respond by teaming up with the ABS-CBN foundation to establish relief operations in affected areas. Pres. Av8or5, VP ThePatriarch and Spyke were quick to respond to the need for help with other members joining in as the days pass after. After a few days of rest, the Club came in full force with 21 Stradas to support relief operations for that day.

ABS-CBN foundation tapped on TSCP again for another activity: to serve as sweepers and standby emergency vehicles for the 1st Philippine International Marathon. The attendees, ThePatriarch, Spyke, moses_a2221, Docglen and 5dreamers witnessed events such as the marathon, dragonboat race and pictorials with personalities.

Outreach to the Environment and the Mountains:
Following the success from Last Year’s fun run, TSCP’s Baguio Chapter headed by Ianmitsulancer together with G01, Kraig_Ethan and Cabu220 teamed up to host the Sagada Fun Run and Light Off-Road Expedition on November 26 to 30, 2009. Preparation of the event involved test and pre-runs to the venues, the off road trail and feasibility of distance and time. The event almost got cancelled due to Typhoon Pepeng’s wrath over Halsema Highway and cancellation of holidays. But with the Baguio Chapter’s undaunted spirit, the event became a success with some of the participants deciding to stay another day. The trip involved trekking in to almost impassable trails as well as driving through cliffs, going further inward through the caves and the discovery of Mt. Clitoris!

At the last day of the event, the Baguio Chapter also hosted the club’s second Tree Planting Activity in cooperation with the City Environment and Parks Management Office of the City Government of Baguio. The club planted 30 seedlings with each of them provided with a banner, tree guards surrounded in tie-wires. The tree seedlings needed to be taken out of the plastic bag, installed on the hole provided then buried with top soil with the surface pressed down to remain intact for years to come.

And as 2009 came to a close, TSCP hosted a Christmas Party for its members on December 12, 2009 at Bigblock’s outdoor restaurant. It was also the venue to celebrate 2 years as a club, the festive mood with fun and music as well as ushering 2010 with a new line-up of Officers for 2010 headed by ThePatriarch (Pres.), Ooba99 (VP-Internal), Docglen (VP-External), Pauland (Secretary), Locoroco777 (Asst. Secretary), Mdksael and Bluemica (Sgt. Of Arms), Arvin Cristi (Treasurer) and Eslonblue (Asst. treasurer), Av8or5 (adviser), Moxxxs (Auditor) and Spyke (P.R.O.). The 2010 Board of Trustees have also been unveiled that consists of the officers and coordinators ianmitsulancer, Out-101 and Nismo26.

With the new set of officers and the experience that the club gain with over two years of friendship, camaraderie and the spirit of brotherhood, The Strada Club of the Philippines is ready for another great year of events to current and new members alike. The Unbounded Potential to make other people smile with the Stradaphilia Outbreak in a constant upward momentum is a manifestation that there is absolutely no stopping the BOSBs from having fun! As everyone joined their hands together like a basketball team and shouted “Go, Strada, Go!” after the club’s first fun run to Tagaytay back in February 2008, it was the living testimony of unity that the Spirit of Brotherhood and Camaraderie will surely go a long way!
