Outreach: In countless waysDefining the word that was best known for 2009...
The act or an instance of reaching out as well as the act of extending services, benefits, to a wider section of the population, as in community work is the right and proper definition of the term Outreach from a leading online dictionary. But knowing The Strada Club of the Philippines (TSCP), I feel its meaning can lead to club activities that extend to external resources and institutions. After the Club's anniversary Eyeball last December 29, 2008 The Band of Strada Brothers (BOSBs) thought that reaching out was my best way to describe it as we entered 2009.
Outreach to the Media:
TSCP’s official Media Exposure was great with the country's leading Car Magazine: Top Gear. It was on a sunny morning on February 21 at the same lot of Fellow BOSB Arvin Cristi's where about 35 BOSBs new and current alike crammed up to make it to the Lens. Writer Sharleen together with Staff Hazel and Photographer Charles felt the wrath of our in-house disease Stradaphilia with more than the usual antics that led to being one of the topics of their published article. There was much improvising in terms of getting Charles for his camera to get better view of the trucks as well as the members. As the trucks lined up to form an art installation, another pictorial was made together with the BOSBs. Flames the bottom the lot’s rolling terrain started to rise that led to BOSBs squirming to safer grounds as well as their lunch! The overall result can now be read at the Featured Car Club of Top Gear's May 2009 edition on page 46.
Outreach to other Clubs:
The club's highlight for March was the interclub meet co-hosted with Club Mazda3. Aside from the Introduction by the host clubs was a lecture for Auto Detailing, Fun and Games, the much coveted Awarding as well as the usual talk about the cars, accessories to name a few was the order of the day. This was also milestone wherein seven Montero Sport owners trooped together after much encouragement from TSCP members and officers to organize themselves to form a group. Another recently formed club that joined in was Club Outlander Philippines headed by Tsikoteer Mongaddi with ten members to start with and counting with their dedicated website for discussions. TSCP also acknowledged the presence of seven Montero Sport owners that later became Montero Sport Club of the Philippines headed by Tsikoteer Mic_21_ph.
Outreach to the Growth of the Chapters:
TSCP is not only concentrated in Metro Manila but in other areas as well. With Coordinators who volunteered to serve in their area: Ianmitsulancer (Baguio/Northern Luzon), Mdksael (South/Laguna), Boz (South/Laguna), Egaysky (Bohol), Out-101 and Tancho_Kuhaku (Cebu), Cyril_T and Nismo26 (Mindanao) it has helped the club to go beyond expectations to 130 to date by holding monthly get-togethers and helping our fellow members with their trucks.
Outreach to Cebu and the Sea:
Last April 17-20, ThePatriarch, av8or5 and DocGlen led the exodus of Dive Inspired BOSBs Pauland, Eslonblue with Kumander Tintoy, Bluemica with Kumander Takai, Homer and Manolo to Cebu. With Simon as their diving mentor, the certification for PADI Open Water was well earned. Since the start of the year, The Strada Club's Licensed Scuba Divers thread had been brewing with pictures, videos and aftermath discussions. With an irresistible pull to the sea again, follow-up activities happen with the timeliness of the summer season and the lure to Anilao's shorelines. With several BOSBs continuosly showing interest for the hobby, it seems that fun under the sea will never end- Rain or Shine. The Cebu Chapter also gained another member. Howard83 together with Chapter Coordinator Tancho_Kuhaku will continue to blaze Cebu's main streets with their club logo emblazoned Stradas.
Outreach to the Outdoors and others:
Aside from this were some significant club activities: January meant starting the year right as the BOSBs trooped to Fellow BOSB Arvin Cristi’s open lot at San Mateo, Rizal to conduct an open field Airsoft game- which was usually done at indoors or at a controlled environment. Pictorials showed a clear view of the Metropolis as the lot had a significant elevation above. As the BOSBs fooled around with guns, the Kumanders had the time of their lives with card games like 1-2-3-pass! It was also on this same lot that select BOSBs gave camping a try with more than the usual kwentuhan overnight.
Sir Pol-pol, as a treat to the club hosted a trip to his fishpond in Barrio San Nicolas, Bulacan, Bulacan. The BOSBs assembled at a nearby Shell station and exited at the NLEX Tabang exit to be welcomed by rustic surroundings, a banca ride, seafood delicacies and a walk around the lake. A surprising picture has also been posted on the threads otherwise known as the “evidence”.
Another notable Visit was Fellow BOSB Dadz who finally came back from Thailand to establish his line of business- from Bash Plates, Piggy Back systems to name a few. He and Kumander Tess were able to visit key cities during their visit to their Homeland as well as Baguio.
