as suggested by our pedia, my wife and i went to the hospital for an xray to make sure we are not going to transmit diseases (e.g. TB) to our baby. fortunately for us the xray result says radiologically healthy lungs.

my wife's grand aunt who helps us take care of the baby also had an xray. i got the results today which i need some medical opinion.

    it says:

    1. There is arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

    2. There is multi-level ankylosing spondylosis of the thoracic spine.

    3. There are suspect densities in the left apex for which lordotic view is recommended.

i know findings no. 1 & 2 are not transmittable diseases and are usually related to old age (Manang is 63 years old). no. 1 involves hardening of the arteries due to accumulation of "plaque". no. 2 is a bone condition similar to arthritis.

now, i need a quick opinion on finding no. 3. although it is only a suspicion and needs a follow up xray, is there a possibility that she has TB based on this finding? or she may have another medical condition which is not nakakahawa like tumor etc.

she will go home this weekend to vote in the brgy election. we have difficulty looking for a yaya and was only fortunate to have a relative volunteer to take the job. do we let her back or just tell her not to come back and heal herself?

    thanks in advance.

I would have the lordotic view X-ray done first before coming to any conclusions. The left apex refers to the left tip of the lungs typically around the collar bone.

here's an honest answer, and made with the best of intentions (i.e. the good health of your family member).

why the hell are you asking an online automotive message board? you have no idea if the advice you are getting on the web is coming from an authoritative source - no offense to any tsikot member.

consult a doctor that you trust. if you didn't like what that doctor told you, then by all means get a second opinion - but from a reputable doctor, not an online forum. there are a lot of things that you can trust the opinions of a bunch of anonymous strangers on, but not medical advice. there's a reason that MD's go to school for 10 years, you know ;)

Hmmm... almost the same case with me.

During our annual physical check-up I had an X-Ray and when I went to get the results it stated there that there are suspect densities. As advised by the doctor, it can lead to TB although I'm not showing any symptoms of it and in my line of work I'm not prone to TB.

I underwent a lordotic view x-ray (where you have to tilt your body 45 degrees - funny posture IMO) and the results where negative.

As said by empy, consult a medical practitioner.

When was the x-ray taken? Less than 6 mos? Have it read and evaluated by an IM-Pulmonary. Nothing will be lost for a second opinion for the sake primarily of you baby and all family members. As long as there’s a carrier in the house, no matter how healthy the kid is, tatamaan at tatamaan. Minimum of 6mos is not guarantee to clear a possible TB. TB antibiotics are not good for the liver young or old

i need a quick advice. manang left for bulacan this am to vote in the coming election. i got the results 2pm yesterday. there's not enough time to go to the doctor for an appointment.

nway, we'll just see a doctor when she comes back after the election. my mom had the same result a couple of times and was negative for any lung ailment.

no offense too, but how sure are you that there isn't a single doctor registered in this forum who could offer medical advice that would, in fact, be beneficial to the initial poster? And even if the ones who answered before me turn out not to be doctors, I still believe that most of the members of this forum could offer sound common-sensical advice. In fact, from what I garner from the posts above, I couldn't see anything medically detrimental to the case in question with regards to the advice they offered.

though no. 2 is non-communicable, it is advisable to have her checked by a specialist (maybe ortho, but more probably rehab) to, at least, prevent the condition from progressing.

for no. 3, a lordotic view is warranted from the results of the first xray, although I can assume the results would probably be negative and, at worst, give another result of "suspicious densities" at the apical lung area. If that happens, an AFB sputum smear would be needed to confirm or rule out TB. TB is so endemic to out country that almost everyone has been exposed to it and been carriers or have resolved their initial infections, even without treatment.
