It’s just like the Angel of Death during the biblical Passover. Only this time, a mosquito is carrying to homes different death packages in the form of four dengue strains. Dr. Eric Tayag, director of the Department of Health -- National Epidemiology Center, revealed that the four dengue strains - Types 1 to 4 -- come from one mosquito.

The virulent Type 3 strain is reportedly circulating in outbreak and hotspots and has already affected hundreds of people, mostly young children. It was seen in most blood samples sent for research at the St. Luke’s Medical Center.

From January to Sept. 16, 2006 - there were 16,932 cases with 213 deaths. The figure is 37 percent lower compared to last year’s 26,996 cases with 330 deaths.

The bulk of cases came from the National Capital Region, Region 3 and Region 7.

“A person could get all four types of the dengue virus in his lifetime. Each strain has a two to three-year cycle. Each type could circulate at one given period in a certain place,” Tayag said.

The order of virulence is Type 2, 3, 4, and then 1.

“Mas matindi ang tama ng Type 3 may kasamang abdominal symptoms ito,” according to Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

“Tinitingnan pa natin kung bakit Type 3 ang nagsi-circulate. We will get blood samples from patients in Rizal, Valenzuela and Quezon City, where dengue cases were reported high this year,” Tayag said.

Cases remain high in NCR particularly in Valenzuela City, Guiguinto, Malolos, San Jose, San Ildefonso, all in Bulacan.

Noon, ang lagnat ay lagnat lamang na puwedeng gamutin sa bahay. Ngayon, kailangang dalhin sa klinika o ospital pag hindi humupa sa 2-3 araw at malamang ay CBC na kaagad ang gagawin....

Grabe talaga! Ingat lang tayong lahat.

After 2 days of slight fever, have him check up(platelets count) in the hospital just to make sure. I hope he is ok bro. My two nephews got dengue.

my daughter got dengue last last week. initially, nilagnat for about 2 days then i got her to a nearby satellite medical city sa may sta lucia so check cbc nya and platelets but the result was negative then our pedia said that if the fever persist until saturday, dalhin ulit namin para ma check ulit cbc and platelets. so dinala ko nga then the result is very alarming kc bumaba at naggalawan yung something sa blood nya and yung platelets count. so admit ko cya sa medical city. buti na lang na agapan type 2 ata yung dumale sa kanya kc no symptoms dengue daw yun but it was still a dengue virus which is not a good word for me as a father. so yun nga nawala na naman ako ng pera since di ako naniniwala sa health card, ipun namin ang ginalaw ko para mabayaran yung hospital bills....tsk tsk tsk pati parking fee duon ang sakit din pala sa bulsa.

no one is immune to this, nagkataon lang na puro kids ang tinamaan. I also got dengue late last year, the symptoms > high fever at night, nawawala sa umaga, headache, pain in the joints.

Simple! Food chain. I have to agree with you that it should be exterminated once and for all....but how about the rats, cockroaches, flies etc. etc.?
