Pacquiao vs De la Hoya better than Pacquiao vs Soto – Roach

MANILA, Philippines - Freddie Roach, chief trainer of Manny Pacquiao, said a Pacquiao-De la Hoya bout would be more of a crowd drawer than a fight bout with Humberto Soto.
"Manny Pacquiao fighting Humberto Soto is senseless, but a meeting with Oscar de la Hoya will be a blockbuster," said Roach when asked by boxingherald.com regarding the fight being proposed by Top Rank honcho Bob Arum.
Roach added that Soto is not the best opponent for the Filipino champion, saying that a Soto-Pacquiao fight will be hard to sell but a Dela Hoya-Pacquiao meeting will be a blockbuster.
"It's tough sell, a Soto vs Pacquiao," Roach said. "It's not a PPV (pay-per-view) fight, it's a free HBO fight if anything. I would like to negotiate a Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar de La Hoya fight."
"I don't understand it," Roach added. "Soto beat Bobby Pacquiao, but Bobby is no Manny Pacquiao. I mean, what kind of PPV draw would that fight be?"
Roach added that Arum should be pursuing De la Hoya, a fight that could draw the attention of even those who are not hard-core boxing fans.
"We are missing the boat!" he said. "Oscar has talked about fighting Manny. We can have Oscar make 147 lbs, and we can add another Mexican legend to Manny's resume."
Roach explained that Arum has yet to talk to him about Pacquiao fighting Soto.
