    walang basketball na ginawa dito.
dahil nasuspend ng FIBA (yung world governing body sa basketball) yung local basketball association natin dito sa amateurs. kung baga hindi nila ni-recognize, so it means, the world views that the Philippine basketball team is not existing.

and since we are the hosts, hindi na natin sinama basketball.

    ;)
ASEAN = association of south east asian natios.
SEAG = south east asian games...

    pareho lang bro..

pero afaik, worldwide recognition ang hindi pa naibibigay sa RP Basketball Association eh, so it means, any international tournaments, our RP Basketball Team will not be able to see action.

ang dapat gawin dyan, its either FIBA reinstates BAP (basketball association of the philippines). ang function nyang BAP is yung parang sa USA Basketball (remember the dream teams???) or organize a new local baskeball body and have it recognized by FIBA. I think this is what they are trying to do now (PABL, PBA and POC).

So we need to put back BAP in order to compete internationally? Eh, AFAIK, they didn't do much in terms of improving the basketball state here.

    Unlike the PBA.

So we're in limbo? What happened to the "dream team" we're building last year? Kaput? Because of all this non-sense politics?

    Man, I hate politics.

This was part of the news that I just read....

The Fiba has suspended the Philippines after the POC removed the BAP from its membership for allegedly failing to honor a commitment with the country’s highest sports-governing body.

Fiba subsequently put the Philippines under suspension and wrote the POC that the order would remain unless the BAP is reinstated.

The BAP, headed by former senator and cabinet secretary Joey Lina, continues to enjoy recognition from Fiba.

Last year, the POC approved and recognized the Philippine Basketball Federation headed by Moying Martelino.

The PBF, however, failed to get the FIBA’s nod even at the insistence of Cojuangco in a meeting with FIBA secretary-general Patrick Baumann in Geneva, Switzerland, last September.

As a result, the Philippines remained suspended from any international tournament sanctioned by the FIBA, including the 23rd Southeast Asian Games where the country is the seven-time defending champion.

Baumann had clarified during Cojuangco’s visit that FIBA still recognized the BAP as the country’s basketball governing body, but signed a memorandum of understanding with the POC chief to form a new unified basketball body composed of officials of the UAAP, NCAA, PBL, PBA and Lina by March 30.

Without Lina, the new federation was "just another PBF," and hopes for the lifting of the FIBA suspension—so the Philippines could send a basketball team to the 15th Asian Games in Doha, Qatar in December—remains dim, a sports official said.

Puspusan pa naman preparation nina Coach Chot tapos ganito ginagawa ng mga governing body, nakakawalang gana.....

Let's hope and pray Fiba will lift the suspension so the all-PBA national team can see action in the 2006 Stankovic Cup in August in China. The Stankovic Cup is the last qualifying tournament for the World Basketball Championship in Japan this September.

Basketball in last year's ASEAN games.
