I just heard today that Freddie Roach wants Oscar Dela Hoya to be the opponent ni Manny. ahuuummm.. ahuuummm. ano kaya?
Pacquiao vs De la Hoya better than Pacquiao vs Soto – Roach

07/17/2008 | 05:16 PM
MANILA, Philippines - Freddie Roach, chief trainer of Manny Pacquiao, said a Pacquiao-De la Hoya bout would be more of a crowd drawer than a fight bout with Humberto Soto.

"Manny Pacquiao fighting Humberto Soto is senseless, but a meeting with Oscar de la Hoya will be a blockbuster," said Roach when asked by boxingherald.com regarding the fight being proposed by Top Rank honcho Bob Arum.

Roach added that Soto is not the best opponent for the Filipino champion, saying that a Soto-Pacquiao fight will be hard to sell but a Dela Hoya-Pacquiao meeting will be a blockbuster.

"It's tough sell, a Soto vs Pacquiao," Roach said. "It's not a PPV (pay-per-view) fight, it's a free HBO fight if anything. I would like to negotiate a Manny Pacquiao vs. Oscar de La Hoya fight."

"I don't understand it," Roach added. "Soto beat Bobby Pacquiao, but Bobby is no Manny Pacquiao. I mean, what kind of PPV draw would that fight be?"

Roach added that Arum should be pursuing De la Hoya, a fight that could draw the attention of even those who are not hard-core boxing fans.

"We are missing the boat!" he said. "Oscar has talked about fighting Manny. We can have Oscar make 147 lbs, and we can add another Mexican legend to Manny's resume."

Roach explained that Arum has yet to talk to him about Pacquiao fighting Soto. - GMANews.TV

I say, GO FOR IT! Manny can fight and he proved his ability himself as good to a very good fighter. If he wants to fight Oscar that would be an honor for himself and of course to all Pilipino.

Manny pacquiao is a very skilled fighter , he's fast & very quick , extremely strong for his weight. not to mention he's a southpaw. But dela hoya is equally as fast if not faster, he is definitely stronger psysically a bigger guy. and he has way to much mega fight expierence.

If he lose to Dela hoya, Manny still the winner not because of the fight..... but in the heart as a fighter.

kwarta-kwarta lang yan!!!..

pweding BOTH are riding at each other's popularity. too good an opportunity to let go!!..-BIG bucks.

sure hit ika nga. -roach's point of view.

kumpara nga naman kay soto, pacman has a lot to lose at kung mapabagsak nya nga itong si soto eh lalo lang mapapatunayan na sisiw nga yung kapatid nyang si bobby -adding insult to injury. eh kung masilat pa sya ni soto? laking talo!!

kay ocar matalo man sya, pweding sabihin na "... eh dela hoya the king naman yun eh." at saka 5"10+' yun at ang masarap pa eh yung pahabol na "matapang kamo si manny(pinoy)...".

ang matindi kung matalo pa nya si "the king" dela hoya!!! another mixacan legend added sa resume ni manny.

what is happening to boxing? this is obviously a mismatch in favor of Dela Hoya, yes he might be older, slower but I don't think Pacman stand a chance against him.

pag natuloy ito mauna na ako tcash bet...Dela hoya pusta ko!

Is Oscar willing to go down 147 lbs? Nasa upper weight category na siya. Ano na ba weight nya ngayon? Malaking sakripisyo gagawin nya.

definitely it's all for the money!

Pacman have made a record already, so record purse naman habol nila... in his fight against Diaz, it was reported that his purse was $3M... siguro for this one, they would bargain for a minimum of $10M win or lose.

And definitely one of them will lose and of course there would be a re-match hehehe. Re-match means GREATER purse. what if mag 1-1? di malayo ang TRILOGY … WTF babaha ng pera i've seen the last fights of dela hoya - puro sparring na lang. malayong malayo nung early 20s niya na talagang puro spectacular. kundi KO talagang bugbugan. kaya nga siya sumikat eh.

Manny doesn't have a chance on this one I would say. Remember I think Roach had some issues previously with Oscar so it might be that he just wants to get even by putting Manny on the line. Manny should know his limit in choosing opponents.

Golden Boy offers Manny $10M purse

Saturday, July 26, 2008 CEBU CITY – Golden Boy vice president Eric Gomez yesterday said the Manny Pacquiao-Oscar dela Hoya fight, one where the Filipino superstar stands to receive no less than $10 million, is highly possible.
Gomez said it may be all up to Pacquiao.
“Manny is the boss,” said Gomez, who’s in the country for the AJ Banal-Rafael Concepcion fight being promoted in part by GBP in this Queen City of the South.
“He wants to get it then he could have it,” Gomez added, amid reports that came out of the Mexican media the other day that Pacquiao has already been offered at least $10 million for the fight.
Pacquiao said he’s ready to face Dela Hoya and earn the biggest paycheck of his career. He added that once negotiations get going, the concerns will focus on the sharing of the pie and the weight limit.
“As long as it’s something where I will be happy and Oscar will be happy it will be okay with me,” he said.
Pacquiao, according to the report, also stands to get around $5 million from the other fight earnings, particularly in the pay-per-view shares (Dela Hoya being the king of pay-per-view).
Gomez also said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao’s trainer, describing Dela Hoya as “older” and one who “can’t pull the trigger anymore”did make his boss and dear friend a little upset.
“But Freddie is knowledgeable. You have to pay attention to what he says. He sees things that others don’t see. He’s been into boxing for a long time. Much longer than me. But Oscar was a little upset.” – Abac Cordero

it would be a moneymaking opportunity pure and simple. now, most fighters dream of getting a fight with Oscar dela Hoya because the winnings will set up their family for life financially.

but Manny is one of the few boxers in the sport for whom at this stage, his legacy means more than the money. he's got money.

dela Hoya has no weaknesses against Pacquiao. he's faster, bigger, a more skilled ring tactician, and his KO power is comparable at worst. he's not old by any means, and is in excellent physical and mental shape. and look at how he messes up aggressive power punchers like Fernando Vargas.

so if Manny wants to take the money and run, it's his career and his decision. but he should at least try to make it a non-title fight

para saan 'to?. . .hindi naman pwedeng umakyat si manny sa superwelterweight to challenge oscar's belt, nor hindi naman bababa si oscar sa lightweight to challenge manny's belt. . .they will have to meet somewhere in the middle, so pera-pera lang talaga. . .
anyway, kung matutuloy man, this is a manny fight na hindi ako pupusta sa kanya. . .this is an obvious mismatch in de la hoya's favor. . .si hatton na lang muna ang pagtuunan nya ng pansin after disposing off valerio in november
