I got this from my Inbox. I don't know anything about this "garden/ornamental" plant, but I am familiar with it, since meron kaming ganito sa bahay.

Poisonous daw ito? Well, sino naman ang luko-luko na kakain nito. Pero just the same, i-share ko na lang din sa inyo ito.......

Ewan ko kung totoo, pero ingat na din po, lalo na sa mga bata.

    Dear all,

Please read below. The message is true. I almost lost my daughter who put a piece of the leaf of this plant in her mouth and her tongue swelled to the point of suffocation. This is one plant but there are others with the same characteristics of coloring. Those are also poisonous and we should get rid of them. Please watch out for our children. As we all leave our children home in the hands of the helpers, we should give them a safe environment where they can play.

"This plant that we have in our homes and offices is extremely dangerous!
This plant is common in Kenya , Rwanda, Uganda in plant nurseries, many offices and homes. It is a deadly poison, mainly for the children. It can kill a kid in less than a minute and an adult in 15 minutes. It should be uprooted from gardens and taken out of offices. If touched, one should never touch ones eyes; it can cause partial or permanent blindness. Please alert your buddies.

We used to have that plant as well. I think it was very popular in the 80s.

Only toxic if you eat it.

Many house plants are toxic if you eat it.

I don't really see the reason for this email except to make people panic.

Lola had one in the old house that was sold. Why would anyone/thing eat a decorative plant?

    http://www.hoax-slayer.com/killer-ho...-warning.shtml

    excepts...

"this warning quite significantly exaggerates the risk of death associated with dieffenbachia poisoning. The results of dieffenbachia poisoning are normally not life threatening and victims usually make a full recovery."

Although ingesting it may result in a variety of ill effects, it's not that deadly:

Of course, we should still be extra careful especially if children are in the house. We too had this plant when I was still a kid; fortunately, no bad incidents.

[SIZE=2]Did some toxic test of this plant when i was a kid. Ang sap nyan milkish white, makati sa balat.

Moral of the story - dont let your kids eat garden plants.
