Uh oh. Looks like the whole team may be in danger of getting suspended if not heavily fined:

    From ABS-CBN News.com

MANILA, Philippines*(1st UPDATE) - A riot broke out at a women's volleyball game involving members of the NCAA men's basketball champion the San Beda Red Lions on Friday.

The riot erupted during a match held in San Beda between the Perpetual Help Altas and the women's volleyball team of San Beda's rival San Sebastian.

The brawl at the San Beda Gym involving NCAA*basketball players as shown on ANC.
San Sebastian women's volleyball coach Roger Gorayeb claimed the San Beda side began shouting at him after his players allegedly insulted the Red Lions' Nigerian recruit Ola Ade-ogun.

Gorayeb then got into a shouting match with members of San Beda's men's basketball team and their coach Frankie Lim who were also inside the gym.

According to Jose Mari Lacson, NCAA Management Committee head, Ade-ogun approached him during the volleyball match between Perpetual Help and SSC-R.

*Ade-ogun claimed that members of the San Sebastian team called him a "monkey."

He then asked Ade-ogun to ignore the insults.

Lacson said a brawl began later following a heated argument between Gorayeb and Lim.

He said that the riot was immediately quelled but a San Sebastian player was hurt.

Lacson said an investigation is now underway. -- With reports from ANC and Maan Macapagal

    Coach Roger Gorayeb's Statement:
"Nag wawarm up yung San Sebastian Men's Volleyball Team. Tapos akala ng San Beda Red Lions, inaasar sila. Habang Nag wawarm up yung Men's Volleyball namin sumisigaw ng chant na ho-hey-ho-hey. Ngayon, nagalit daw yung isang player ng San Beda kasi akala sinigawan siya na unggoy. Hindi naman unggoy yun eh. Lahat ng VOLLEYBALL team tanungin mo normal yung ho-hey chant.

Tapos, habang naglalaro ang ladies team ko at ALTAS, may lumapit sa akin, pinalilibutan daw ng RED LIONS ung MEN's VBALL team namin sa labas. So lumabas ako. Nakita ko nga nagkaka-initan. Pero hindi naman lumalaban yung MEN'S VBALL namin sa SAN BEDA BASKETBALL TEAM. May mga officials na nga dun eh. Kaya tumulong ako mag pacify. wala akong sinabi. Aawat nga ako sa gulo eh. Siyempre players namin un. Saka anong klase yun? Kami na nga lang ang dayo kami pa maghahanap ng gulo?

Tapos bigla akong sinigawan nung isang player. Sabi ko, bakit? Tapos biglang sinabi nung player teritoryo daw nila yun. Huwag daw kaming magyabang.

it sure looks like sbc's st placid gym ain't so placid now

well, coach frankie lim has always been known to be a hot head but i'm not so sure about coach roger gorayeb though. he looks calm enough whenever i catch him on tv (even though he reportedly punched an over verbose gay heckler in a shakey's v-league tournament game last summer). whatever transpired on that sad morning make things either sad for sports but exciting for developing rivalries in and out of the ncaa

The NCAA should come down hard on this incident. Frankie Lim should be dismissed as SBC's basketball coach. When coaches act as thugs themselves, it's hard to imagine how their teams would behave.

I agree with sir altis6453, they shoudl come down hard on thugs. Okay lang "mouthing" but physical altercations means you're not sport anymore! This kind of actions should never be tolerated.

Even bad mouthing has limits. Dapat panggulo lang hindi yung insulting na.

I don't understand bakit naman aasarin ng SSC VT si Ola? Like C'mon guys, even on your home court, di mo naman pagtritripan ang isang player ng isang sport and player kadin ng isang sport.

it was a very physical game that culminated in this:

PCCL: San Sebastian slams San Beda as another scuffle broke out

MANILA, Philippines—San Sebastian was lucky it was leading by 15 points when it lost its entire bench players in the last two minutes of the game.

With just five players left, San Sebastian went on to defeat San Beda, 87-72, in an emotional encounter Monday in the round-robin final four of the 2011 Philippine Collegiate Champions League at the Arena in San Juan.

Even the Red Lions were left with only their playing unit on the court following a bench-clearing incident with 2:11 left in the game, which saw eight players from both squads get ejected.

It started with an elbow from Kyle Pascual that hit Calvin Abueva, who was positioning himself for a rebound behind Rome Dela Rosa, in the nape.

Abueva responded by slamming Dela Rosa in the head—and then the some of the players reacted almost automatically to the tension inside the court.

Pascual and Abueva were the first thrown out, along with San Sebastian’s Arvin Vitug, Michael Miranda, Joshua Grilli, Krushev Ferrer, San Beda’s Ryusel Kyoga and Mico Sorela, who were all punished for entering the court.

“It was highly emotional, not just for the players but also for the whole community,” said San Sebastian head coach Topex Robinson, as the incident came just days after the ugly brawl between the Red Lions and San Sebastian volleyball coach Roger Gorayeb at the San Beda gym.

“It was a good win for us. San Beda lost a lot of players but they still gave us a good fight and we respect that,” added Robinson.

The Stags, led by the big three of Ian Sangalang, Ronald Pascual and Abueva, had the upper hand in the entire game and led by as many as 19 points, 59-40, over the depleted Red Lions.

Sangalang churned in 20 points and notched 12 rebounds, Abueva added 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Pascual, who injured his left knee early in the payoff period, had 15 points and three rebounds.

The Red Lions, who missed the services of star guard Garvo Lanete and Jake Pascual, tried to stage a comeback early in the third quarter but ultimately lacked firepower.

Dela Rosa finished with 13 points even as Carmelo Lim added 10 points in a losing cause for San Beda.

San Sebastian faces Ateneo while San Beda clashes with University of Cebu Tuesday in the single round-robin semifinals.
