For now it's just a geeky novelty for hipsters, but you never know. It may have immediate applications in greenhouse environments and for higher value crops/plants, but it's a ways away from replacing large scale farming of, say, rice or corn. Its next evolution may involve aerial/ground drones that does the farming and monitoring.
