SAN FRANCISCO -- Software giant Microsoft on Thursday let industry professionals begin testing its next-generation Internet Explorer (IE) web browser due for release by the end of the year.

An "IE7 RC1" beta version of the world's most widely used web browser could be downloaded free of charge at the Redmond, Washington, company's website.

"Depending on your feedback, we may post another release candidate" of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft general manager Dean Hachamovitch wrote in a weblog.

"We’re still on track to ship the final IE7 release in the fourth calendar quarter."

Microsoft said in a release that it was "confident that developers and designers who optimize their websites and applications with this beta version will be compatible with the final version when it is released later this year."

The new IE was designed with improved performance, stability, security, and application compatibility, according to the company.

An English-based version beta IE was released on Thursday and would be followed in September by releases supporting other languages.

"We’ll continue with Arabic, Finnish, German, and Japanese as before but also add French and Spanish versions with this release," Hachamovitch wrote.

Microsoft said it planned to release the final IE version as a high-priority update.

Hmmm.Need more feedbacks about this.Baka magkaproblema lang PC ko niyan.. Pagiisipan ko pa at download ko na lang cguro ito ng madaling araw go dial up internet connection..nyahahaha..

2 months na ung ie 7 ko. automatic siyang naupdate. pero ang ginggamit ko fire fox. mganda nga lang ung tab ng Ie 7. andun na agad.

Of those apps, Download Accelerator would be the hog. I've had Windows Defender as my realtime spyware defense for a while now. I also have cable broadband, So DA isn't needed.

I just installed IE7 RC1 SP2 and now doing comparisons with Firefox. Both are in Tsikot.com Forums and both have an additional tab with Google.com

Looking at memory usage. IE7 uses more ram.

IE7 53,832k
Firefox 43,384k

But going to cpu usage..........
Firefox idles at 2% cpu usage. But, it also spikes to as high as 9%
IE7 idles at 2% and remains steady at 2%

I started a scan with Windows Defender to see how much cpu bandwidth is taken up while Firefox and IE7 are still running here......


CPU usage spiked as high as 57%. But, dualcore just shrugged it off.

Conclusion? It's not that bad a hog...

Just to clear things up. IE7 RC1 SP2 is a 14.6mb download. If that sub-5mb file is IE7, maybe it's a scam page. It did require 1 restart. But, that's it. Install took around 2 minutes which included the install hunting for updates on the web.

I don't see any big difference appearance-wise from Firefox and Opera. But, I like the Windows Defender/Anti-Phishing, and popup blocker security.
