I am maintaining a duplex for bodega. I keep this bodega lighted (4 locations) for nearly 24/7 unless we find time to turn off the lights during the day. So it was my ultimate goal to look for alternative ways to save electricity for this bodega. I use more efficient flourescent bulbs before and then a month or more ago I turned to LED bulbs.

    The following are my observations:

    Flourescent bulbs:
    Jan 2012 - usage 71kwh, bill P668.36
    Feb 2012 - usage 52kwh, bill P408.83
    Mar 2012 - usage 40kwh, bill P284.87
    Apr 2012 - usage 77kwh, bill P776.10
    May 2012 - usage 56kwh, bill P496.37
    Jun 2012 - usage 42kwh, bill P296.14

    LED bulbs:
    Jul 2012 - usage 22kwh, bill P113.82

We shifted the use of LED bulbs mid if not late Jun that is why the Jun bill was also low. March was low because we manage to turn-off the bulbs in most mornings.

July bill dropped significantly, even if we almost never turned the lights during the day. We will see if the August bill will be same as July or even be lower.

The cost of the bulbs was twice than the flourescent but if the rate of savings continue, it will pay-off in about 4-6 months.

Can you pls share where you bought the LEDs? Are these the replacement for 36 watts f or 20watts FL? I also want to change over to LEDs to save. Electicity prices are crazy.

May GES brand, nxled, akari, omni, philips, etc.

Important thing sa LED is the bulb kung anong generation na and yung heat sink. Heat will shorten the life of he LED. Mas maganda yung fin type na aluminum yung heat sink. Important factor din yung warranty. Yung iba 5 years warranty nga pero may limit sa number of exchanges. Sa pagbili naman, usually computation is lumens per watt. Siyempre higher the better.

Ang nabili ko na is yung 7w na nxled which is 630 lumens. And 8w na omni which is 680 lumens. Both are way brighter than my old 20 watt spiral/tornado ccfl

I've seen a lot of LED bulbs here in Japan and it seems there is no difference in terms of brightness.

Was tempted to buy one here but it is rated at 100v. In Manila, I also looked for one but I only found some unknown brands.

For an ordinary bulb, it can set you back Php1000.

Mura lang ngayon. Nasa 700 peso range nalang yung 7w na 630 lumens. Pag GES brand, mas mura pa ng konti. Tapos 5years warranty siya. And 4th gen LED na din. Pag lumang generation, madalim and hindi reliable.

700 isang piraso? Grabe ang mahal pala.

Gusto ko sana palitan yung mga bulbs sa chandelier para mas matipid.

Yes 500-700 pesos ang isang piraso na 7w. Pag 5w mas mura. Sulit lang talaga ang LED if:
    1. 24/7 naka on yung ilaw (or atleast 12hours a day). Pag 24/7, few months lang ROI ka na.
    2. Wala pang ilaw na nakakabit. Kasi pag meron ng cfl then papalitan mo, sayang yung existing na bulb.

Baka one week warranty But seriously, I looked it up in cdrking website and it says replacement for 40 watt incandescent bulb. If thats the case, better just buy a 8 watt cfl bulb.

Yeah skylights are great for natural lighting. Only downside is heat gain if its not done correctly. I had this experience when I used the plastic transparent corrugated sheets for sky lights. Heat gain was too high and I covered it up with insulation after a few weeks.

I think it will be more accurate to compare it with lumens. Yung mga better brands has lumens printed on the packaging. For comparisson, my 8watt(680lumens)led is brighter than my old 20watt spiral cfl bulb.

Like what TS said, if 24/7 use naman within a few months ROI na. The rest is savings na.

sa mga high ceiling it is feasible. huwag lang sa mga low ceiling ung skylight. tatagos talaga ung init.

More than half of the light bulbs in my home has been changed out to LED bulbs of varying wattages (3, 4, and 7W). I'm using two brands; NxLED and GES.

Rough comparison of light intensity between LED and CFL:

    7W LED = 20W CFL
    4W LED = 11W CFL
    3W LED = 9W CFL

These are all 4th generation LEDs, or so I've been told.

Ive changed all the cfl in my house to led. I started with china leds and cdrking leds which is half the price of the ges brand found at the malls. I saved around 800p from my prevoius elec bill. I use most of the led bulbs for around 18hrs a day and im on my 2nd month of since installing the led's.

My china led 5w which i bought for 250p

The ges 3w 4th gen led costs around 380p

    My cdrking myeco 5w bulb

Watts per watts the ges would be the best led for your money. Brighter light with the same wattage.

My cheapest china led 3w lang pero spotlight. Anliwang. Cost 150p

For an 8W bulb,- it will take 100/(0.008)(9) = 1388 hours for you to spend P100 on electricity (at Php9 per KW-Hr).

So, if you turn on your light for 12 hours a day only (6PM to 6AM),- then this translates to 115 days or almost 4 months.

So, pahabaan na lang ng buhay ang labanan.... You do the rest of the math....

I think the life expectancy of an LED will depend on the cooling. LEDs get much hotter than CFLs, which is why LED bulbs have built in cooling fins.

The advantage is that the LED bulbs don't have a "charge" time... and shouldn't be as vulnerable to damage to on-off cycles as CFLs... which seem to wear down easily in areas where they are cycled on and off very quickly... like bathrooms.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
