In the interest of lowering our electricity bills, I'm planning to replace a 250W Metal Halide floodlight in the yard with a close equivalent LED flood. It doesn't have to be as bright but just enough illumination to conduct family social functions and of course, for security.

Now, I've been looking at offerings from both physical stores and online, and as with everything, prices are all over the place. I can get something like a Philips or NXLED and call it a day, but I don't know much about these things enough to say if these two relatively-known brands are worth their price.

There's also the Chinese off-brand fixtures with prices that seems too good to be true. Then in the middle of the pack, there's Omni.

I'm looking at getting three 20W or two 30 or 40W fixtures. They'll be powered up automatically everyday from dusk 'til dawn (approx. 10-11 hours/day duty cycle).

Bottom line is, can anyone recommend an LED flooflight fixture that they have first-hand experience with and are known to be reliable but not expensive?

haven't tried using LED flood light but what we did is replace the halogen bulb to a CFL bulb and retained the fixture.

light output between the two are almost the same. halogen (200W) vs CFL (50W)

the Floodlight fixture with the halogen bulb cost around Php500, the CFL bulb replacement is Php450. no bulb socket conversion done.

you might try the cheaper bulbs installed in weatherproofed salakot-type fixtures with reflectors. they are probably cheaper than floodlights.

We replaced our village/townhouse basket ball court lighting with FireFly LED 50W IP65 Outdoor Flood Light at 2,500 each before discount of 20% with 2 years warranty at ACE hardware, mega mall.

We are glad with the result...

Thank you. However, the old fixture houses a ballast and a socket to receive a metal halide E40 bulb. Converting them to hold E27 bulbs would be impractical.... and a waste of a good MH fixture.

We initially decided on an MH fixture because of its inherent reliability and very long service life. We installed this fixture some 3 or so years ago and the total operational time is estimated to be already somewhere in the 12,000 hours. It's never been serviced and still retains maybe 80% of the brightness when it was new. The downside is, it uses electricity like a muscle car gas guzzler.

On CFLs, they are cheap but have a significantly shorter service life which will require more frequent servicing. The cost of the bulb isn't the problem. Access to the fixture is. The fixture is high atop a 30-ft. pole and requires scaffolding to service.

Most E27 "bulb" LEDs are highly directional. Putting it in a "tear drop" type fixture wouldn't be very efficient as it'll be pointing the wrong way. There are E27 lights with their LEDs installed on the side, but these are, I think, older generation LEDs that are either inefficient and/or unreliable.

Anyway, I'm pretty much decided on getting a proper outdoor LED floodlight. I just need to know which one would be as reliable as the MH fixture without spending too much.

    One vote for Firefly.

The MH fixture we have right now is in fact made by Firefly. It's the 250W Venus model.

Im lighting my lawn with two 25 watts NXLED spot light type bulb for over 3 years na, working pa din , although hindi naman 12 hours per day ang gamit, maximum na yung 3 hours per night.
I have 2 - 12 watts solar powered street light type, generic, installed at the other side of the lawn, yun ang 12 hours per day.
Hindi maganda experience ko sa firefly, madaling mapundi, buti nalang may warranty, kaso nakakapagod pabalik balik sa ACE.

firefly naman ang OK experience ko sa led bulbs
omni and philips Ok lang, pero yun ges sobrang sablay; yun bihira magamit and madalas magamit na bulb sa bahay, di talaga umaabot ng ilan buwan (maski yun replacement). meron ako 3 year old fireflys sa bahay na average 14 hours a day and isang madalas 24 hours (nakakalimutan patayin hehehe).

Yung GES led bulbs ko naman wala pang nasisira since Feb. 2014, thanks to tipid thread on LED thread.

Sunod kung sinubukan FireFly, wala pa ding nasisira after almost 4 years.

Yung OMNI ang sablay, almost mag 2 years nang bumigay, buti naihabol ko pa sa ACE for 2 years warranty na palitan, pero itinuloy lang yung date of purchase warranty.
