i don't understand why everytime i charge my mbp, i get this electric shocks. seems static electricity builds up that it actually zaps me!

i got this 15" laptop october last year and just a month ago, i tend to notice this hissing sound probably coming from the fan.

i searched the net for such experiences, and seems others, if not all, have same observations, even worse than mine.

a suggestion was to upgrade the firmware. i did, but didn't improve.

    anyone having this predicament too?

    TIA

baka magaling nga magbuild-up ng static yan... kung merun third prong yung plug niyan, try mo kayang buhaying yung GROUND connection ng outlet mo...para madischarge ang static electricity every time.

IMO, nothing to do with firmware. That's an electrical/curcuit/something problem. I'd go with WT's suggestion: buhayin mo yung 3rd line dun sa power supply/cord - yung ground.

cge subukan ko. ung firmware actually was meant to solve the hissing sound that seems to be produced by the fan. that was what i got from researching in other websites. kaso di naman na solve. baka kasi meron sa inyo may ibang solution.
as for the electric shocks, cge gawin ko ung advice nyo.
    tnx.

Didn't the Mac Book have recalls? My dad has one and he brought it in three times. Heatsink and something else was replaced daw...heatsink may be the cooling fan or part of it you're having problems with.

Well, hissing fans are kinda....normal on some notebooks/laptops. The two HP laptops I use here at the office emit a hissing/whirring noise that drives me batty sometimes. Maybe you can shop around for a better fan that's compatible with your unit?

HP, based on my experience with these two HP units, the sound can sometimes become unnoticeable if the ambient sound levels inside the room are normal i.e. the normal noise at your office. However, when I work alone and the fan(s) go on, it can be intolerable at times.

Whenever i work, i often listen to music so it might be okay. hehe.

If ever it is indeed a problem, i am sure i can fix it in one way or another.

I need a macbook pro 15" because the macbook only has integrated videocard - and the thing looks cool being made of metal. hehe

Maybe the fan is loud because of the hot videochip?

Another one i am also considering is Sony VAIO TX or S series.

Maybe there's a fan vibration dampener kit available for laptops...

the hissing sound on my unit is actually tolerable. i was even thankful tho because the videos that i watched at youtube are worse. they claim to hear it even at 3meters aways fr the laptop.
mine could be heard only while using the unit, then at a meter distance, di mo na rinig. that's in a closed room with A/C running and all windows closed.
others started hearing this as early as a month from the time they purchased, mine started recently only.
nakaka alarm lang kasi mataas ang expectation ko since the brand is of paramount reputation and considering the price, who wouldn't expect much?
anyhow, am still extremely happy for the performance of this machine. have relied on this for several presentation jobs and never failed me so far.
so if i'd be upgrading to a new laptop, mbp will still be my ultimate choice.
sana lang maayos mabuti nang apple ito.

The new ones (sold by Apple Philippines) already use the Santa Rosa platform.........tapos Intel Merom chips ang gamit niya. This already reduces heat and power consumption over the yonah-based MBP units.

Still, kung hindi ka pa sigurado, you can wait a few more months at lalabas na ang Penryn chips (45-nanometer) which means EVEN LESSER HEAT AND LESSER POWER CONSUMPTION.
