The Hottest Tech Toys at CES 2013

The 2013 Consumer Electronics Show (or CES, which was held in Las Vegas from January 8-11) has just concluded, but not before leaving geeks everywhere drooling over the tech toys it unveiled. A lot of new devices that sport the "next-gen" tag were paraded but, as always, there were several gadgets that really stood out and made us say "lupet!"

    1. Oculus Rift

Looks like us previously labeling the Oculus Rift as one of the gadgets to look out for this year was a smart move. Why so? As we had previously raved about, the damn thing lets you play games in a digital 360-degree setting! All you need is to do is put it on and let the virtual reality juice spice up your gaming experience. Sure, there are still some geeks out there who think this will eventually be a major fail, but the verdict so far is it's legit, which is good news for gamers all around. This could very well be the future of gaming. And no, we're not exaggerating.

    2. Sony Xperia Z

One of the first superphones to be unveiled this year (and we're expecting more to come), the Xperia Z comes packed with some of the best phone specs known to man. We're talking about a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, full wireless connectivity (which includes 4G LTE), a huge-ass 5-inch 1080p KD touchscreen, and a 13.1-megapixel main camera (2.2-megapixel secondary shooter).

Aside from having handsome hardware, the Xperia Z is also waterproof and has no added bulk, measuring in at just 7.9mm thick.

    3. Nvidia Tegra 4

The successor to Nvidia's quad-core Tegra 3 chip has arrived! The Tegra 4 processor promises to be speedier and more powerful than its predecessor while consuming up to 45-percent less energy. Nice! Makes us look forward to this year's upcoming tablets and smartphones it will call home even more.

    4. Samsung S9 4K TV

4K ultra-definition TVs that sport 4x the resolution of regular HD displays are no longer the stuff of sci-fi. Fact is, we know of at least one that has already arrived on local store shelves. Samsung continues the march of this new boob-tube eye-candy tech with its gigantic 85-inch stunner, the S9. Aside from producing awesome visuals (and looking oh-so-great on any sala), the S9 comes with a tiltable metal frame, which helps in giving better viewing angles as well as making it seem like it's floating on air.

    5. Kingston HyperX 1TB flash drive

From the giants we now go to the smaller devices, like the Kingston HyperX. But don't be fooled by its size, this diminutive wonder boasts of a huge storage capacity of 1TB. Yep, it's a 1-freakin'-terabyte flash drive that has more real-estate than most PCs. We couldn't believe it at first but, hey, it is real, and it definitely was one of the stars of CES 2013.

    6. Razer Edge

Previously known as Project Fiona, the Razer Edge aims to deliver true-blue desktop gaming on a tablet. And it does so by packing the necessary hardware. The Razer Edge has an Intel Core i5 processor that's partnered with 4GB of DDR3 RAM, a 64GB solid-state drive for faster performance, Nvidia GT 640M LE 1GB graphics, Wi-Fi, and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. It's also Windows 8-powered, which means you could use it to play tons of desktop games.

Depending on which version you buy, you could also get one with built-in controllers for easier gaming. And, if you find the display too small for your taste, you can stream your content to compatible external displays (i.e. your HD TV)

    7. Lenovo IdeaCentre Horizon

If size really does matter, then Lenovo's IdeaCentre Horizon will be the clear winner in the tablet arena. This giant has a display size of 27 inches, which is about the same as eight iPads combined. It's obvioulsy not for those with portability it mind.

The idea behind this gargantuan device is to bring the tablet experience to many users simultaneously via programs with multi-player modes like, say, a game of virtual Monopoly. As for its innards, the IdeaCentre Horizon has the same specs as that of a standard Windows 8 PC, which basically means it has great power under its hood.

    continuation...

    8. Fujifilm X100s

It looks a bit old-school, yes, but it's hiding some serious shooting specs behind its frame. The Fujifilm X100s is said to possess the world's fastest autofocus speed (just 0.08 seconds), an EXR processor which gives superb low-light performance with 30 percent less noise, and HD video recording at a super-fast 60fps (frames per second).

    9. Huawei Ascend Mate

Here's another proof that CES 2013 was all about size: the Huawei Ascend Mate. This smartphone boasts a 6.1-inch touchscreen, making it almost big enough to be a tablet. Huawei says its display is the biggest of its kind in the world. This quad-core device also has a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU and a huge battery that charges up 30 percent faster than those found on most smartphones and can deliver 22 hours of telebabad.

    10. Nvidia Shield

Aside from showcasing plus-size gadgets, CES 2013 also revealed a host of next-gen gaming gadgets, including the nifty Nvidia Shield. It looks like a console controller, only that it has a 5-inch display that you can flip up when needed. But the real magic is in its ability to stream (via Wi-Fi) your PC games and play them on a compatible TV or on the device's display itself.
