Feedbacks about Apple iPhone

Naglabas na ng Apple iPhone. Nakakita ako sa Mega Exchange Megamall. P 30,900. kaso I asked d lady kung gaano katagal ang warranty, sabi 6 months lang. Napanood ko kasi sa TV, mahirap i-open line yung iPhone dito sa Pinas, very risky daw. I really like it! Sobrang ganda, 5 megapixel, 8 GB na memory, super thin and handy, touch screen.. everything. I love it! kaso nakakatakot bilhin kasi baka pag may nasirang parts, mahirap humanap ng parts kasi nga hindi pa sya totally inilalabas sa market dito sa Pinas. Pumunta akong Apple shop, sabi baka within this year or next year pa daw nila ilalabas ang iPhone, sobrang nagulat ako meron na sa Mega exchange! kaso ang bilis naubos.

Meron na ba dito na naka iPhone na? any feedbacks?

Although I haven't used an iPhone, I have had some time with a couple of iTouch units which basically shares a lot of specifications with the iPhone, just less the phone part.

The camera is just 2mp and can only take pictures. No video. Also no camera flash to help you in dark places. Also no other camera setting controls which makes the iPhone rubbish at taking pictures.

The touch screen might be fine but try typing out a message on a non-tactile keyboard. I can guarantee you it will be frustrating when you keep on hitting the wrong keys once every third or fourth keystroke.

What the iPhone excels in is what iPods have been doing for some time, displaying pictures and playing music & videos. The phone is also good once you have entered all the data into it. Of course, typing ALL your data into it is another story.

You will also have to consider the battery in this gadget. You cannot remove the battery and replace it with another if you run low on charge. And even if you charge it up everyday, in a couple of years, the battery will wear out and you will need to send it back to Apple to replace the battery and charge you a big sum of money to simply replace the battery. Go Apple!

True, the display and system interface is pretty impressive. Very simple in the fact that it only has one button. Try taking a self-portrait picture using the iPhone's touch screen shutter button. LOL!

If surfing the web is your thing, it comes with WiFi and GPRS/EDGE but no 3G. That might sound great but since most sites with WiFi around the city are either secured hot spots or pay-for-use, you will have to fallback to your celphone service provider for your internet access and surfing with GPRS is like surfing on dial up. Meanwhile, 3G users are getting their cellphone based internet access at broadband speeds.

Music, thats what Ipods do well and the iPhone does it pretty well too, once you get the music into the thing. Of course you have to use Apple's itunes software or else it wouldn't transfer your files into the thing. And you would be limited to either manually extracting your music from your CD collection or buying the MP3s from Apple's online music store. This is compared to other MP3 players in-which you can just simply drag and drop MP3s into it, whatever the source. You must really love Apple.

Oh, by the way, while the 8gb internal memory on the iPhone might seems a lot (which it is a lot), but you cannot expand it. Other devices, you have an external memory slot where you can just plug in a memory card to add 1 to 2gigs of extra memory whenever you need it. Currently, some companies have developed 8gb memory cards for mobile devices like cameras, music plays and mobile phones as well.

Overall the iPhone is an impressive gadget with lots of "flash" factor when you show it to your friends who would start making sounds like "oooooo" and "wow" but when the novelty of the device wears off and the reality sets in, all you end up would be an overhyped iPod with a cellphone built it. I'd rather have the Nokia N80 or the Nokia N95 any day. Sorry!

it's a cool looking gadget. that's about it. i bought one and returned it. like mr. ghosthunter had mentioned, the i-phone's "keyboard" is frustrating. if you already have an ipod or ipod video, just save your money and buy a different phone (like Nokia N95 or other smart phones).

I am not that sure with the locally available N95 but my N80 is more or less hang free although it would "restart" itself once or twice in a month but at least it would go back to the main screen so it would be ready to go.

Anyway, choosing a phone is not about features but what you want from the phone's capabilities.

If one of your concern is GPS navigation, the N95 might not be the best GPS equipped celfone. The Nokia 6110 Navigator has a better GPS software for it's GPS receiver. Downside is it only has a 2mp camera as compared to the N95 5mp carl ziess lens equipped cam. The 6110 is about at par with the N80 with most stuff but has the advantage of having the built-in GPS receiver but no WiFi nor infra-red port. The 6110, E65 & N95 battery has supposedly a longer charge than the one on the N80.

If you want a music player replacement as your celfone, all of the ones listed below can do that job. If you want to be able to view your WORD/EXCEL documents in your fone, all of the ones listed can do it. Of course, one of the advantages of the N95 is it can playback photo or video to a TV, which is a neat trick IF you remembered to bring the cable for it.

Regarding the camera part of celfone-cameras, personally I have given up (for now) in finding a camera-phone which can match the performance of a dedicated digital camera. Typically a dedicated digital camera will take pictures sharper, clearer and brighter in most conditions and will have better setting controls as well. So if the camera on the camera-phone isn't that good, its NOT a major negative mark. Even the shots from a N95 cannot match the image quality from a branded entry level digital camera.

Anyway, its really up to you to find what phone fits your needs, wants and budget restrictions. One good way to do it is to list it down and reflect if that feature is important to you and can the device do it in a practical way.

I had a test drive with the iPhone last October. hehehehe... Sarap gamitin but not practical. Open line na sya actually.
