Global chip shortages to last 2 more years: Intel CEO - MarketWatch

"New Intel Chief Executive Pat Gelsinger said on Thursday that supply constraints, and the “immense” investment needed to meet demand, mean that the chip shortages affecting the automobile industry and other sectors are likely to last two more years."

It's not just gadgets, computers, and cars going to be affected but basically anything the uses a computer chip.

Taiwan's worst drought in decades impacting crucial technological sector

"Taiwan is home to some of the world's largest and most advanced microchip factories in the world, according to Tech Xplore, a news organization that covers the technology industry. Manufacturing microchips is a very water-intensive process that uses billions of gallons of water each year to protect products from contamination."

It turns out the shortage is going to get much worse before it gets better.

Our modern society is basically built on embedded microchips on equipment, machinery, instruments, and consumer products. The ripple effect of this will be a key issue for governments and economies in the next 18 months.

The pandemic has brought about unprecedented demands for electronic products (laptops, cloud servers, 5G infra, medical equipment and health sensors) that semicon companies are stretching resources to catch up with the backlogs. Shortage of automotive electronic parts were just an offshoot as the auto mfcturers maintain low inventory levels by practicing JIT.

All new models have chips na bro either on their infotainment or instrument cluster. The most advanced chips are those being used for autonomous driving like sensors and cameras.

Baka engine chip lang para sa itong L300. Its dashboard, instrument cluster and even stereo are all very basic. Ang digital lang ay yung odometer.
