I dont think they have one in the phils...but you can save money with your long distance to and from your dad (as long as they have broadband internet)...

get him another vonage....give him a local number (same area code as you).....send the box to your dad.......and you can call each other 24 hours a day......no long distance call since you both (virtually) in the same area codes......cool huh?

wow, super cool. Have you tried this yet?

Si Dr. Phil Kho may gamit na equiptment where you dont have to pay any subscription fee ($24.00) nakalimutan ko lang ang brand name. The good thing about Dr. Phil's equiptment is that you dont necessarily need two equiptment to call each other.

The equiptment can be purchased for $250.00 yata.

    Dr. Phil Kho = wiretap_md

Well..basically, if you subscribe to vonage....you can choose an area code....(say 718)....get 2 boxes ($24x2 per month)......send the other box to the philippines - plug it to a broadband (which is a requirement), your virtual phone number go with you since voice travels online......so you have a 718 phone here in the US..... another 718 phone located in the phils....when you call each other, it is treated as a local call.....so for additional 24 bucks, you can basically call to and from the philippines 24/7.

Plus, they (philippines) can call the US and Canada free (included in the 24 buck plan).

Wow, that really works airshaq20. Pero Local Calls are only possible between the two numbers, correct?

however, ang sipura (brand name) you are NOT limited to calling the other person with another vonage box. With Sipura, you can call anyone FREE anywhere in the world. And there's no monthly subscription fee aside from your broadband internet. 512kbps connection is highly recommended.

Kahit cellphone? Wow...where do i get one.........

With the vonage 24 buck plan..kasama don unlimited calls to US and Canada, kahit anong area code.....and you can bring the box anywhere in the world basta may broadband.....the catch is....yung monthly bill, you have to have a US billing address....saka mura lang yung box...minsan may promo sila (free first month and free after rebate yung box)......

by the way, you can also call regular land line, cell phone or any phone with the vonage.

I have tried several VoIP services, not vonage though. From my experience if you were calling the US and Canada, very cheap! But if you use it to directly call the Philippines...

0.21 cents to 0.28 cents per minute (depending on the service provider)

a local call to the US or Canada ranges from 0.02 cents to 0.04 cents/minute. Cheap, eh? BUT....you must be calling North America to get this good deal. Calling other countries, prices differ.

IF you can send a unit to a loved one in the Philippines, and call each other, that would be essentially FREE. Calling any North American phone number from the Philippines from a VoIP phone will be cheap, or FREE even! Ang binabayaran ko actually is: 0.02 cents/min of calling the 1-800 number, PLUS the phone card na ginagamit ko. ($5 = I get 43mins)

There are services that can also go through a low speed connection.

The catch that I discovered though, is: If the connection in the Philippines is not broadband, then it is not gonna work. Kung minsan, naririnig ako, kung minsan hinde. Wala kasing broadband sa area of residence ko e. Kainis nga e.

So, IF your loved one in the Philippines has broadband....by all means, get them one as well as yourself! and talk all you want!

Skype is also a good medium...libre pa. download mo lang ang program and install. But like I said: kailangan broadband....para maliwanag ang both parties.

(sa skype: anything above 32kbps is sufficient already. if it goes below that, wala na...)

    pprado,

I believe that it comes with a software, like any other hardware, to obtain a dial-tone. He never mentioned anything about getting a new number.

From the terminology itself, siempre kailangan broadband talaga. VoIP is broadband based di ba?

NTC to pilot e-rule making system in VoIP, 3G rules
    (Inquirer, Erwin Oliva)

NTC will soon utilize an electronic rule-making system for VOIP and 3G, which features an online chat facility, a message board, and an online system designed for work groups.

THE NATIONAL Telecommunications Commission will use the country's first electronic rule-making facility to facilitate the development of regulations for voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology and third generation mobile services (3G).
The system's simulation is scheduled this month, cyberlawyer Claro Parlade, executive director of the Cyberspace Policy Center for the Asia Pacific, told INQ7.net.

Developed with help from Asia Foundation and US Agency for International Development (USAID), the e-rule making facility, features an online chat facility, a message board, and an online system designed for work groups.

“I'm not aware of any similar facility in Asia right now,” Parlade said, adding that NTC was chosen as the pilot agency but that the e-rule making facility can also be used by other agencies.

The Cyberspace Policy Center aims to help government in the exercise of rule-making using technology, he explained. Similar systems are now used by the US Federal Communications Commission.
