Just wondering, I saw one at Greenhills yesterday and I'm having second thoughts if I'll buy it or wait for it at Globe stores. If you buy from Greenhills, their warranty is not convincing enough. Plus, you don't know if your unit will conk out in a few days.

Any tsikoteers who bought units at Greenhills before? Or anyone who have the 5140 already? How was it?

    Thanks.

15k-17k for an open line hungary/finland model. Kaso when I opened the manual, panay bulate nakita ko. Useless.

I'll wait for the Globe/Smart to sell these units, at least the manuals will be readable.

I also have a 5140. nabili ko sa e-phone, SM Megamall. Got it for 18,000, with one year service warranty. Try mo din sa Mega Exchange. They're selling it for a little over 16,000 with one year service and parts warranty. Ok siya as a phone, considering that this is my first MMS-capable mobile (my previous phone was a 3310). Wild talaga yung compass, pwede mong gamitin para tandaan kung saan ka naka-park :-) The built-in torch is not exactly a Mag-lite, pero its bright enough in dark situations (napapakinabangan ko siya ng husto sa sinehan). And it also helps na matibay siya.

There's this program in the UK called The Gadget Show, and they featured the 5140. Grabe yung ginawa nila dun sa unit. Ipinasok sa vacuum cleaner para madumihan, tapos itinali sa pick-up at kinaladkad, ibinabad sa barbecue grill for five minutes, tapos nilagay sa likod ng isang truck at pinasabog! Yes, PINASABOG! They tested the unit afterwards, and IT STILL WORKED! Granted na di masyadong scientific yung tests nila, pero I was more than convinced na hindi ako nagkamali sa pagpili ng modelo. I bet hindi kaya ng Siemens yun...

Push-to-talk is a new feature that enables you to use your mobile phone as a walkie-talkie. One push lang and bingo, kausap mo na yung gusto mong kontakin. Kung me naka-assign kang PTT group, everyone in that group can hear you simutaneously on their PTT-capable handset. No need to dial numbers, and no need for the contacted party to press a button just to hear your voice. Just press the dedicated PTT button and go. Actually, mas maganda pa ito sa walkie-talkie kasi wala itong limit sa range.

The 5140 is the world's PTT-capable mobile phone. Too bad lang SOBRANG BAGAL (extra emphasis on BAGAL!) ng mga telecom carriers natin dito in adopting the technology.

So, connected ka and wasting precious minutes charged on you then you could use PTT function?

i think based on usage ito. kaso nga lang, kelangan may naka 5140 or a similar PTT enabled handset para magamit mo yung function.

yung PTT is targeted sa mga phone users na sayang yung mga 5-10 second calls, e.g. yung tatawag para tanungin kung "san ka" or para masabi na "dito nako." well, yan yung explanation ng friend ko sa globe :D

hanggang ngayon offered pa rin naman sa nextel yang PTT na yan... most units na meron nito is NEC and Motorola. basta tingnan niyo sa nextel pero ang alam ko analog ata yun eh (not sure). pero second ang charge nila. may prepaid na din ang nextel now

if you're calling another nextel user, pwede mo atang gamiting ang PTT, pero pag other network na thats when you should use yung available minutes ng phone.

but then ang smart and globe and other network d pa nag ooffer nitong function nato, so its useless pa except i guess sa nextel kung may SIMCARD man nga sila. alam ko kasi hindi de-simcard mga phones doon hehe.

for more info sa nextel may office pa sila sa JAKA Building sa may ayala corner rufino (formerly herrera st.). ito lang ang alam ko e hehehe

I personally dislike the 5140 although I am impressed with its features and its ruggedness . Kasi naman yung keypads ang hirap pindutin parang yung 5210 ko noon. I would prefer the M65 but then di ako impressed sa style. It's just me i guess............... :-)

ang problema sa PTT, dapat marinig agad nung tatawagan mo yung na-send mo na message, else walang kwenta.
