The 43" Skyworth TV that my senior parents are using recently died. A replacement (used) logic board costs 3-4k but there's no saying how long it or the other parts will last so we're probably scrapping this.

Suffice to say, I'm looking for a brand new TV. The size should be 42-43" as it needs to fit the existing space. 'Smart' vs 'Dumb' is not a deal breaker as I plan to reuse the existing Roku 3.

I'd be happy with a basic but reputable and reliable TV, even without the bells and whistles. In fact, FHD (1080p) is fine.

What's your budget? I would recommend a TCL or HiSense but if your budget is much lower, there are other brands out there. The key thing is looking for something which you can easily find parts online.

Btw, a replacement board for your old TV should be cheaper on Shopee, I think.

The logic board appears to be out-of-stock now (Shopee and Lazada), but back when they were still available, it was in the ballpark figure I stated.

That's unfortunate. The advantage with getting a tv like a TCL is that parts are readily available online. The case is the same with the likes of LG or Samsung but you're really not getting your money's worth paying for a 43" LED TV with these brands, since the TCL typically will have a better panel at the same price. Also, the Samsung TV warranty in the Philippines is only for one measly year, so a definite no for this TV.

    ^Thanks!

I'm checking out the TCL 43S5K. What can I expect from TCL + Google TV in the long term? Will the apps continue to work in 5-10 years, assuming the hardware survives that long? Though, I understand that I can still use an STB like a Roku via HDMI as a workaround, if needed.
