i'm currently looking for a phone that will work here/Asia and the US/Canada; what specs should i look out for? afaik most parts of asia use 2100, while US/Canada is mostly 1900.

Do i need to look for a unit that supports 1900/2100? Will 850/2100 work? tia

A quadband phone would solve all your mobile phone choice problems.

So far my phone is a Nokia N80:

    From www.gsmarena.com:
    2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
    3G Network UMTS 2100

It works in the US, Australia, China, Singapore, Taiwan, and Guam.

to put the question in another way: say i have a unit that can do UMTS 850, can i use it to connect *via 3G* in the US? Or do i need UMTS 1900?

Based on what i've seen, most 3G phones usually do UMTS850/1900(US versions) or 2100( most parts of the world).
