January 8th, 2007 05:40 AM #1I am moving to the Philippines in the near future and was wondering if I could get some info on the tracks there . I have a alcohol funny car for drag racing and a road race car I would like to bring with me . The funny runs in the low 6 seconds . The track car is a little Fiat x19 full prep race car . Can anybody help me out with any clubs or organizations I can get in touch with . Thank you .

For drag racing, there's the PDRF (Philippine Drag Racing Federation), which runs events at Macapagal (inside Manila) and at Subic (I think). Sadly, I don't think you'll find a bracket you can race in there with your funny car, as it's mostly track-prepped street cars. Most of the top runners are 9-10 second cars.
There's a muscle club that runs at a strip in Clark Airbase for fun. Again, all street cars.
For track, there are only two full-sized race tracks in the country.
Batangas Racing Circuit, which is about three hours south of Manila, has events scheduled in the latter half of the year, but no event specifically for cars like yours... you could bring it to one of the "Run What You Brung", but it might be overkill......BRC is big, with a nice, challenging infield.
Subic International Raceway, about two hours north of Manila, is tighter, with less turns. There are also scheduled events there.

Carmona Kart Track is normally a Go Kart circuit, and it's small, but they host special events from time to time, and it's big enough and long enough for cars.
Your best bet if you want to race your Fiat is to alter your set-up a bit and join one of the very active autocross associations here, as they run events year-round, and the competition is fierce.
There's an organization looking to start rallycross, but I haven't heard anything new about this. There's another starting a hill climb club (which you will probably be very interested in...) but I don't have the contact number on me, and I'll have to dig it up.
Hope this helps!

January 8th, 2007 11:05 AM #3Thanks for the info . I will probably bring the funny as I love this car . Maby some of the tracks will let me do some exibition runs . I have 2 bodies for this hot rod . One is a 79 Mustang the other is a 89 Daytona . Although this car requires alot of track prep I can run it on a light tune up and a soft clutch set up to help it get down the track . We do this for some match races on some poor tracks . The Fiat would be easily changed around . I have a couple of engines and lots of spare parts for this car , anything from stock to full race . I really do appreciate all the help and I am looking forward to meeting a great car crowd when I get there . I believe car people are the same all over the globe . I am planning a trip there in Febuary or March . Maby I might be able to meet some of you all . Thanks alot , Roman .

just a thought i had while reading your story....i wonder if the philippine authorities will consider your funny car as subject to the taxes and duties of importing vehicles?
if so, you might be in for a lot of expenses.
it might be worth doing some research...

January 8th, 2007 01:27 PM #6Wow , I never thought of the taxes . This could be bad . I know on cars they will not allow cars older than 4 years in the country . I don't know how they will treat these vehicles . They are my third love besides God , and my family . I was hoping maby to bring them in pieces not assembled , maby . Anybody with any info on this I would really appreciate it . Thanks
someones are (at last!) loudly asking, "why did they turn off the countdown timers?"
