Kimi Raikkonen took advantage of the qualifying penalties handed to title rivals Fernando Alonso and Michael Schumacher, to grab pole position for Sunday's Hungarian GP.

Alonso was given a two-second penalty for each of his flying laps as punishment for his practice shenanigans on Friday.

The Renault driver veered in front of Red Bull tester Robert Doornbos before braking sharply in what stewards called a "unnecessary, unacceptable and dangerous" move.

He was also punished for overtaking under a yellow flag but almost before those penalties could sink in this morning, Schumacher found himself hauled before the stewards.

He was also docked two seconds for overtaking two cars under red flags.

That leaves Schumacher starting 11th, four places ahead of Alonso, whom he trails by 11 points in the Championship.

Penalty yung dalawa....oucchh! Could have been more miserable if only one them did. Mas naging exciting nang i-penalized both. We'll see if who's tougher coming from the middle grid.

Minus the penalties, it could have been 1-2 for MS and FA, or the other way around.

This is FELIPE MASSA's chance to secure his first career F1 GP win. Schumacher is too far back to orchestrate any so-called "team orders" for all you team orders fans out there.

Schumi has a good chance of winning being in 11th and being a incredibly fast car. Last time he started at the back of the grid, he ended up 4th or 5th i think.

They're a team, they're not supposed to compete with each other, rather help each other. The job of massa (which he was doing beautifully btw) is to keep competitors away from Michael's back.

How they'll do it? Here's my prediction: Massa will make a pit stop, go to the men's room to take a leak, order a capuccino, read the headlines on the Sunday's paper, by the time he gets back to his car I'm sure Schumacher would glide pass by and overtake him for P1.

11th isn't that far back. AFAIK - Schumi won that way a few years back.

A good pitstop strategy, aggressive opening lap and and some help from Massa can make this happen.

teka, how'd schumi get penalized this time?

+1 din on massa winning...pero at this point siguro, baka may team orders to just let schumi win, and kahit 2nd si massa to get max team points, and to further whittle down alonso's lead.

Another crazy stuff at the 2006 F1 Hungarian GP: Juan Pablo Montoya interjecting in-between racing scenes saying "If you drink, don't drive" commercial. It was a spooky feeling knowing he's already gone. Gives me the goose-bumps.

Button & Honda! Amazing win. And who would've thought of De la Rosa even reaching the podium? Should've put my bet in those two, heard it'll be around a grand if you did. What in the world happened to Schumi, bowing out only after being pushed aside by Heidfeld to fourth place? And Kimi- dude what's the deal this time?

The race was nothing but...Matira ang matibay, maiwan ang malas! Exciting drama unfolds in yesterday's race coupled with wet weather most of the time.

Kimi had a good lead midway of the race until misfortune struck him by colliding with Liuzzi.

Then Alonso took the lead until he went for his 2nd pitstop. Upon exit, he had trouble getting control of his car and subsequently retired with a driveshaft failure.

Then, it was Schumi's turn for the misfortunes. About 3 laps more before the end of the race, he had suspension problem forcing to pit immediately, but apparently, did not went out anymore and opted to retire.

Great race by the winners (Button - his first ever, Dela Rosa and Heidfeld) and too bad for the title contenders.

Kubica, who finished seventh, was disqualified when his car was found to be 2-kg below the minimum weight requirement. That means, Massa went to seventh and Schumi to eight and adding a point to his title. The gap between him and Alonso is now only by 10 pts while for the constructor's title, it's down by 7 between Ferrari & Renault.

    Whatttarace......whattarace!

The TOP TEN Craziest Moments of the 2006 Hungarian GP

    10. Mercedes on slick tyres (Dela Rosa) decides to go for a head-to-head shootout with a Ferrari on intermediate tyres (Schumacher). Who won? The Ferrari of course! But Schumi had to give way sooner or later in the chicane.

    9. Fisichella crashing his Renault into the wall all by himself. What a loser.

    8. Nico Rosberg still inside his car while it was being craned out of the race track.

    7. Scott Speed shouting in the radio: "We need DRY TYRES! We need DRY TYRES!". And when the team changed him to dry tyres, he spun out of the pit lane and kept spinning around like Mel Gibson under the influence.

    6. Who would have thought it will rain in Hungary on race day? Just like what they said in the movie: "The gods must be crazy!" Hehe.

    5. Yamamoto chickened out scared driving in wet weather, so he just crashed himself at Turn 1. Banzai !!!!!! Hehe.

    4. Raikkonen crashing his McLaren over a Torro Rosso without even attempting to swerve out of the way. Parang patapon na yung buhay niya sa McLaren.

    3. Alonso crashing his car because of a loose wheel nut?!? Crazy!

    2. Schumacher deciding to fight it out in the final laps instead of simply collecting whimper points by pitting and changing his tyres. Never say die. Whoever says pit stop strategy is boring, should give Michael credit here. There was no more thread on his tyres!

AND THE CRAZIEST MOMENT in the 2006 F1 Hungarian GP?

    1. The 3 winners of the ESPN/Star Sports contest who correctly predicted that Jenson Button will win the race from 14th on the grid. They are crazy!!!

My gulay... this is the best race this season!

Kimi charging in the wet like there's no tomorrow... but apparently there is - with him crashing into an early braking Toro Rosso (to let Kimi pass). Hats off to dela Rosa for keeping his cool and avoiding both the disentegrated McLaren & Toro Rosso - and for also defending his position against Alonso.

Schumi struggling with his tires during the first half but found his pace & grip after the track dried partially. Great battles with Alonso, dela Rosa & Heidfeld - against the latter two, he was like a possessed man - battling it out on intermediate tires against slicks! Hehehe. Though all Tifosi out there are muttering, "He could have just settled for 4th f*cking place" - but then again that's what Schumi is all about!

What a freaking break for Yamamoto! He couldn't even get past lap 1 in both of his races. Baka may balat ito sa pwet!

Great finish for Kubica though he also spun a couple of times. Hehe.

The safety car also was having a heck of time sliding around the track when it was deployed.
