Ferraris, Mclarens are backmarkers....i cant believe my eyes renault and Toyota just passed them twice during the race... very unusual race talaga! Poor BAR..they just last for 3 laps.

Ferrari has a tire problem (wrong brand for this track)... and Mclaren was not a backmarker... pumutok lang yung tire ni Kimi kaya siya napunta sa likod...

tire problems were plaguing many of the teams... you can see how bad the tires of the cars after the race...

with all those tire blowing up, that new regulation may do more harm than good.

    Good for Toyota!

I don't think it's strange that Ferrari is not winning. Everyone needs a few races to get used to the new tire rules. Take note, it's the slower car s that will initially benefit from this, as they don't strain their tires as much as the higher horsepower cars, which, thanks to the absence of launch control, are at even more of a disadvantage than ever.

I think this is going to be a very interesting season, with lots of last minute drag-racing.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Ferrari is the only top team running on bridgestone, all others are running on Michelins. Kaya mas madaming test mileage nakuha yung Michelin compared sa Bridgestone, so better prepared yung Michelin sa bagong rules.

    Not quite.

Traction control is still there. In a current Formula 1 car, it's not really the power of the engine that kills your tires, as most drivers won't be wheelspinning even with 800-900BHP. What REALLY kills the tires is the handling of the car, if it's sliding or twitching then it's harmful. Then of course, there is also tire construction. Ferrari, Jordan and Minardi run on Bridgestone tires while everyone else (like Williams, McLaren, Renault, Toyota, BAR, Red Bull, Sauber) run on Michelin. Everyone who finished in the top-ten except Michael Schumacher were running on Michelins.

The absence of launch control doesn't disadvantage the top teams any more than the mid-field. The only ones who are disadvantaged here are the drivers who don't know how to use their clutch (there shouldn't be any in F1... right?).

IMO, it's just Renault and Toyota (not to mention Red Bull who are the only team left that so far scored ALL cars points in ALL races), along with Michelin, doing their homework, and Ferrari/Bridgestone losing out especially in the Malaysian conditions. New rules isn't really that much of a factor in determining the balance of the playing field, not when EVERYONE is affected by the new rules.

Also, don't forget that Ferrari are still running on a 2004 car, modified to comply with 2005 regulations.

It was Toyotas first podium finish and was widely seen as belated reward after four years of preparation, three years of racing a lavish budget of more than 1.5 billion dollars spent.

Yes, traction control is still, there, but launch control is important. Renaults have always been quick off the line. And it's their lightness and relatively low engine power that gives them these launches.

With or without traction control, a heavier, more powerful car will always stress their tires more.

er, can anyone summarize the new rules for this season? i can't seem to find a reference hehe

does toyota's podium finish come at their own credit, or simply because other teams had bad luck or something?
