While I still think the Cayenne is mostly pointless, this looks much much prettier, in a Mazda RX8 meets Volvo XC90 kind of way. Apparently, Porsche finally got it into their thick skulls that the 911 "corporate-face" doesn't fit on an SUV.
Ugly or not, the previous look spawned such large sales for Porsche to make so much money and keep it independent. Btw, the Cayenne still has the best resale value in North America.
*number001: That's like saying the Tamaraw was a sales success for Toyota... still doesn't make either car pretty (though a Tamaraw isn't exactly ugly... ).
Admittedly, it's controversial cars like the Boxster (only die-hard 911 cranks actually think this isn't a real Porsche) and the Cayenne (call me a crank) that keep Porsche's ball rolling, but the old one was a stretch too far in the styling department. They're so hung up on the 911's styling that every new model has to look something like it.
As I recall, the 924, 944 and 928 weren't 911 lookalikes, but they were well accepted anyway (that is, until they grew too expensive).
I'm glad the new Cayenne steps away from that... now all they have to do is fix that gaping maw under the headlights.
New model ba? That makes it even better... though how they can improve on the mechanical aspects of the Cayenne is difficult to discern... it's nearly perfect (performance-wise) as it is.
the back looks like an XC90 now... but the front! damn 2 big ass holes below the headlight is the damn problem!! i hope they fix it. i can still the big ass holes in the new model. tsk tsk
