UPDATE) Loren's ex-husband admits killing aide, claims self-defense

[SIZE=2]Former Batangas Governor Jose Antonio Leviste has confessed to killing his business administrator in self-defense inside his office in Makati City, ABS-CBN News reported Friday.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay confirmed that Leviste surrendered to him after confessing to the murder. He said Leviste shot the victim Rafael de las Alas in self defense.

Police found de las Alas at the 9th floor of the LPL Building in Makati past 1 p.m. Friday. The victim was found in a sitting position in front of Leviste’s office desk with a gunshot wound to the left side of his head.

Alas was holding a gun in his right hand. A broken glass and a wine bottle were also found on the desk.

Authorities said de las Alas might have been firing at an assailant.

Loren Legarda, Leviste's estranged wife, said she was shocked after hearing the news.

"It's tragic. I am in the dark as to what really happened. As you know we've been estranged for several years now, as I have publicly announced," she said in a statement.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

Self defense?? Yeah, right, how convenient, since there were no other witnesses.

My former officemate recounted this story years ago. He had a scheduled appointment with Mr. Leviste. So while he was waiting to be let in, he could hear Mr. Leviste in his office cussing and swearing and threatening to kill somebody (in Tagalog). Apologetic pa nga yung secretary sa kanya, kasi talagang nakakayanig daw yung mga mura at masasamang salita. Buti na lang medyo matagal na siyang naghihintay (more than 20 minutes), so sinabi nya na lang na had an another appointment, at nagpa-resked na lang.

Needless to say, he never came back.

RE: Blood pressure: if you're at risk of spending the rest of your natural life in jail, you'd have a stress-induced attack, too.

40k lang ang bail? Wow... that's encouraging... so if I want to kill someone, a quick trip to the ATM will get me out, huh?

Isn't Murder one an unbailable offense?

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Justice secretary Gonzales said that based on the bullet wounds of the victim, Leviste should have been charged with murder a non bailable offense instead of homicide Justice Gonzales is replacing prosecutor Henry Salazar upon the request of the victim's relatives.
