Is your ride a congressman's ride too? check out:

    http://www.pcij.org/blog/?p=1465#more-1465

IF you want to see the latest and the most powerful vehicles the car industry has to offer, visit the parking lot of the House of Representatives. Lawmakers show they have an impeccable — and expensive — taste in cars.

In recent years, the Mitsubishi Pajero was the most common SUV of choice in the Lower House. The trend is changing. These days, the SUVs come in various forms, sizes and brand names. Nissan Patrols are aplenty. So are Isuzu Troopers. Eye-catching in their seeming somber stance are Ford Expeditions, Chateaus, Everests and Tamaraws. There are also Chrysler Town and Country, Ssangyong Rexton and Toyota Land Cruiser vans.

Rep. Acmad Tomawis of party-list Ang Laban ng Indiginong Filipino (ALIF) was seen alighting from a Hummer sporting a number 8 plate, front and back. Hummer’s look-alike, the Mercedes Benz G series, is the choice of Quezon City Rep. Mary Ann Susano. Of course, there are BMWs, Jaguars and Mercedes Benzes in medium sizes, too.

Both the Hummer and Benz G series cost around P3 to 6 million while the Ford SUVs are worth P1.5 million and up. Basilan Rep. Gerry Salappudin’s Korean-built Ssangyong Rexton ranges from P1.7 to 2.2 million (exclusive of taxes).
In the beginning, the number 8 plate showed the province and district of the lawmaker using the vehicle. While the vanity plate was displayed in front, the regular plate number was kept at the back. But these symbols of responsibility and accountability have been ditched. These days, very few lawmakers keep the regular plate, as many have opted to sandwich their cars with the 8 vanity plate. There is no way of knowing who owns the car.

Nothing terribly expensive on there save for the G-Wagen. Props to the rep who rides in a Chrysler Town & Country. MPVs are pretty down to earth far as vehicles go... Not very cheap, but not expensive either and hugely practical. Most will even call them boring.

Many congressmen are already rich before running for a public office.

One of our distant relatives is a congressman. Their family was well-off already thanks to their medical-related business before he decided to run for mayor then congress.

Jokingly, the wife is complaining that she is now the padre de pamilia since she was left to manage the businesses and that her husbands salary is very small. To add, they sometimes have to shell out their own money for some office related expenses like the construction & maintenance of his office. Their choice of steeds are a compact sedan, van & the requisite Pajero.

But still, there are some rotten tomatoes out there.

But to generalize that everyone of them is like that... well...

yup, this one is true.... a classic example is Manny Villar. before he entered politics, he is already one hell of a rich guy. dami ng lupain sa las pinas.

Given naman kung may pera na talaga prior to being elected, like Manny Villar. I have relatives in congress and same thing like your relative, liit ng sweldo ng congressman and the wife is complaining! Kaso, I also see some elected officials na wala talagang yaman/pera prior to being elected but after a few months in office, biglang yaman. Tipong parang nanalo sa lotto. Dun ako nagtataka. BTW, no intention of generalizing. Peace m2!

those are some tremendously ignorant comments posted under that blog entry.

i'm not a big fan of philippine politicos either but that kind of overreaction and jumping to conclusions is not good for anyone either.

pards you can't blame those people. hindi talaga nakikita ng karamihan ng pinoy na sincere ang mga politicos. tignan mo ang bansa hindi umuusad. walang systema dito at walang rule of law pre pero may maraming suggestions :D
