But isn't it true that the prosecution never established a "beyond reasonable doubt" evidence to convict him?

Tipong binasura mga proofs ng defense that Webb was in the US when it happened? I think Mon Tulfo wrote something about this as well.

Deceased former PhilStar columnist Teodoro Benigno has defended Hubert Webb till his very last breath. There must be something there, since a very seasoned journalist like Benigno wont putting his name and reputation on the line, unless he really knew for sure.

I do think the local courts here ignoring so many key evidences that seem to suggest that Webb was in the US at the time of the murder, like the document signed by no less than the US Secretary of State (at that time), Madeline Albright, certifying Webb's presence in the US as well as another document signed by the director of the FBI, stating similar effects. The Phil. judge is so arrogant enough to demand the impossible by requiring Albright to personally testify during the court proceedings.

prof. solita monsod also wrote something to this effect in her inquirer column.

Stinkaboy: Well, they didn't have enough to convict for murder, iba ang level ng evidence required in cases like these...

Dito kasi guilty until proven innocent.

although controversial yung case, i don't think they will just point a finger at sen. webb side of the family dahil kilalang tao rin yan so there must be some connections pa rin. i heard a rumor that it was actually jason webb who committed the crime daw but since jason webb has a promising career unlike hubert who is a pasaway, kaya si hubert nalang nag-sacrifice. i hope it's not true.

There was one other son of Webb they tried to pin the case on but they found that he belonged to the "federasyon".

Pinalaya na si Biong, was listening to Karen Davila and Vic kanina sa radio interviewing Ex senator Webb, aba lo and behold pareho sinasabi ni Webb at mga posts dito na 4 years old, FBI records and Secretary Albright etc etc. Also parang may some other bigtime name involved ata dito na against kay Senator Webb at that time.

Yung FBI report ba na nagsasabi na si Hubert nasa US nung time na yun is solid?

Why is Vizconde trying to question the release of Biong?

I actually admire Sen. Webb. Imagine giving up his political aspirations just to support his son. I don't think the evidence is beyond resonable doubt, I think the trial before was influenced by PR and not really from the evidence.
