For future reference on why a lot of Chinese cars have 1.5L and below engines.

China's tax on small-engine cars to be raised to 7.5% in 2017 | IHS Markit

the Chinese government will introduce the new tax rate on locally produced vehicles fitted with engines of 1.6 litres and smaller on 1 January 2017. The new tax rate of 7.5% of the selling price for small-engine vehicles is still lower than the 10% charged for vehicles with engines larger than 1.6 litres.

    What's with China-cars and 1.5-liter engines? | Autofun

Through Executive Orders 71 and 72, the late President Benigno S. Aquino III reduced import duties on vehicles from the PRC from 20% to just 5% on vehicles that met the criteria AHTN 8703.21 (Motor vehicles with engine displacement 1000cc and below) and AHTN 8703.22 (motor vehicles with engine displacement exceeding 1000cc but not exceeding 1500cc).

the philippine market for chinese cars is so small, compared to the rest of their foreign buyers, "they wouldn't do this just for us".
so why did our government favor the 1500?
    dunno.

a furrin auto journalist attempted to explain it, that "1500 cc is better",
but nahilo ako sa explanation niya.

    my 1.10 pesos' worth.

yes. as I remember. China made local tax exemptions for cars with 1500cc and below... that's why most their cars have 1500cc (and below)

as for AutoFun's article... I just shared it as I always thought it was Du30's admin who gave the tax adjustment

And in other developments, the Philippines now has 22 Chinese car brands operating. Chinese car companies are now the majority in the country.

tsayna invasion in the Philippine roads.

Time to bring in MOAR non-chinese auto companies in the country. Like:

    Vinfast (Vietnam's national carmaker)

and their VF3 concept, this would melt jetour's ice cream for sure!

    More VW group brands like:
    Skoda (Czech)
    Seat (Spanish)

    The French:
    Renault
    Dacia

Electric cars like these should operate in PH BEV landscape:
    Rivian
    Lucid
    Lordstown
    Tesla
    Ford F150 lightning
    Ford Mustang Mach E
    Toyota BZ4X
    Nissan Ariya

Stop TSAYNA auto companies invasion! In PH auto market!

    Just asking.

Assuming I can import an electric car from China to the Philippines (Metro Manila), how hard would it be to get it registered with the LTO so it can be legally used on the road?

i suppose it won't be difficult at all.
i believe the current importaton laws cover them.

May similar youtube video nito but sa US inimport from China.
It's not worth it, I imagine mas malala pa dito yung processo compared sa US.
Sa video na yun, 2000 dollars nga yung pickup truck, mas mura compare sa Jap multicab used dun na priced at 10,000.
In the end, nagastos niya is more than 10,000 dollars pa nga.
How much more kaya if sa atin gawin processo for a single car only.

    mabilis lang

you just have to provide all the proper documents

pinarating mo from china via container van so syempre meron ka packing list, bill of lading, receipt ng tax payment, etc

    submit mo lahat sa LTO

kung isa lang... for personal use. I think its not possible. (not unless may kakilala ka sa loob)

ang alam ko OFWs can bring back 1 car, pero mahaba-haba list ng requirements.

easier to just talk to a 3rd party importer tapos ask them to import the vehicle for you.
