Crime Victims Call on God, Not the Police



METRO Manila residents admit they pray and hope God Almighty will save them from being the next victim of street crimes.

This is just one of the highlights of the Pulse Asia survey commissioned by the Philippine National Police.

The most frequent crimes cited by respondents include snatching of cell phones, jewelry and bags, theft or burglary, armed robbery, theft of motor vehicles and estafa.

Instead of relying on policemen for their personal safety, Metro Manilans call on God, the survey revealed.

According to the survey, people now avoid places where street crimes are rampant, with most prefering to stay at home at night.

Survey results show that only one out of four victims go to the police to file a complaint due to pervasive belief that nothing would come out of it anyway.

Also, most victims think that crimes are too petty for the police to bother with. A third reason cited by most victims is the perception that the police are too slow to act on any complaint.

Pulse Asia interviewed 600 respondents in Metro Manila’s five police districts. It covered the awareness and performance ratings of all public safety officials from President Macapagal-Arroyo down to chiefs of police of each of the districts, including on-going public safety programs.

Is this good or bad? Come to think of it, this attitude simply shows that we filipinos have really lost our confidence sa Government (as a whole) but still we are not reacting. We are too busy managing our OWN lives. Live and let Live. Que Sera Sera! So why should we expect something new and good to happen?

IMO, dapat ay proactive ang mga tao sa kanilang mga mithiin at ginagawa dahil "God helps those who help themselves". Meaning if you just pray and don't do anything about the situation,- you're not bound not to get what you desire. Now, if we want to have peace, order and progress in our country,- then you have to do your own share in nation building.

Isang radical na opinyon sa ating mga Pinoy (and don't get me wrong here please- I just want to share this with you) is that too much dependence on religion is a hindrance to progress. We pray hard, yes,- but we leave everything to God, without trying our best to alleviate our situation. We see God as a Great Provider, and we, waiting for welfare.

Arguably, another thing is that our corrupt officials are 'stealing' without conscience because they can 'still go to heaven' because they can confess their sins.

Uulitin ko po ulit. Hindi ko po ito opinyon. Share ko lang po ito sa lahat para magkaroon tayo ng ibang perspective sa relihiyon at gawin ang nararapat para sa Diyos (at para sa ating pagkatao), at para sa Bayan (Pro Deo Et Patria) .....

Actually, it's a good idea to avoid crime-prone places. As for calling the police, we've had good experience with this. Last sem yung dormmate ko nanakawan ng laptop, sabi ko tumawag ng pulis eh ano pa ba magagawa natin maliban dun. Sabi ko pa nga malabo na marecover pero malay natin. Malay nga namin, it was recovered from a fellow dormmate's bag in another room a few hours later, kickout si magnanakaw (of course) and we never saw him again. Niregaluhan ko siya ng kadenang panlaptop bago kami mag Christmas break.

Minsan may nangyari sa isang kasama ko na OFW. Nadale ng Ativan Gang sa Domestic Airport. Nalimas yung mga dala niya. Tinawagan ako, at humingi ng assistance sa akin. Di siyempre sa Pasay Police kami magri-report kasi sakop nila ang Domestic.

Would you believe na kami pa ang bumili ng bond paper para makagawa lang sila ng report about the incident? Diretsahan...sinabi sa amin na wala raw silang bond paper! Eto pa, noong bumalik kami sa Domestic para gumawa sila ng on the spot investigation, kami ang nagkarga ng gasolina sa owner nung pulis na kasama namin, at on the way, panay ang parinig na "GUTOM" na raw sila. Siyempre, pinakain din nu'ng kasama kong OFW yung mga pulis (at ayaw sa carinderia, baka raw marumi!) Anak ng tokwa talaga!

Hanggang sa natapos na yung bakasyon ng kasama ko, walang nangyari sa kaso. Walang nahuli (ano pa ba maaasahan mo?).

Nung nadukutan mom ko dati sa SM shoemart sa makati.Hindi na namin nireport yun kundi tinawagan na lang namin ang mga credit card para hindi magamit ng mga yun.Sayang nga lang dahil may dollars pa naman dun.hehe.

So... what else is new in the Pilipins.... sa alabang nga eh sa gabi dami checkpoint at roving na pulis nangongotong... ung mga truck drivers kinokotongan... pati mga service na bus mali lang ng onti kaway-kaway at lagay na agad ang hanap... kesyo d dapat raw tumigil dun... e pano d titigil e trapik sa harap...

Tapos last week lang dumaan ako sa may UP may check point din ung mga pulis... may kinakawayan na car sa harap ko... d tumigil dirediretso lang... d nmn hinabol. Ang masama pa trapik dahil sa kanila. take note din isang mobile lang ung checkpoint, walang sign na PNP checkpoint basta ilaw ilaw lang sa mga kotse na dumadaan... I guess pag kinawayan k ng pulis kumaripas k n lang ng takbo kc malamang kwartahan k lang nila.

Buti pa magnanakaw alam mo na ung pakay, e pulis di mo alam ung pakay nila kung pang inom lang o malaking pera panghulog sa mga motor nila na magagara at mamahalin.
