SEVERAL crisp 100-peso bills misspelling President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's surname as "Arrovo" have recently found their way into circulation.
"The BSP has apologized to the President over the incident," BSP Deputy Governor Amando Suratos Jr. said on Sunday.
"Nevertheless, in accordance with policy, these 100-peso banknotes that have been issued by BSP are considered legal tender and should be accepted as genuine currency," Suratos said.
Suratos said the printing of these banknotes had been outsourced abroad to ensure sufficient supply of 100-peso banknotes during the Christmas season.
The BSP's cash department has withheld the issuance of the rest of the bills that misspelled the President's surname. The BSP would not say how many of these erroneous bills had been printed and issued.
