Mar gives way to Noynoy as LP presidential bet
    By Dennis Carcamo (philstar.com)
    Updated September 01, 2009 06:47 PM

MANILA, Philippines -- Liberal Party president Sen. Mar Roxas announced today (Sept. 1) he is giving way to Sen. Noynoy Aquino III to be their party’s standard bearer in the 2010 presidential elections.

"I'm now announcing that I'm supporting the candidacy of Noynoy Aquino," Roxas said in a hastily called press conference at the jam-packed Gabaldon room in Club Filipino, Greenhills, San Juan City.

He said the decision was initially difficult for him, but he chose to make the sacrifice for the sake of unity.

"Country first before self… I choose to lead unity not division," Roxas said.

Also at the event were Reps. Ruffy Biazon, Erin Tańada, Riza Hontiveros-Baraquel, and Nereo Acosta, Ang Ladlad party-list nominee Danton Remoto, and former cabinet officials Dinky Soliman (DSWD), Chito Gascon (DepEd), Juan Miguel Luz (DepEd), Liwayway Vinzons-Chato (BIR) and Avelino Cruz (DND).

Sabi ni Erap, kung magkakaisa lahat ang mga opposition parties na magwi-withdraw sa Pres. race, ba-back out na rin siya.

Nobody f-ckin cares about Mar Roxas. He's the biggest loser in this setup. He already shelled out millions only to take a step back for Yellow Ranger.

Pero makaka-kickback pa naman sya - sa Pagibig parang ginawa ni Noli

Likely scenario, Noynoy has yet to decide whether or not to seek the presidency...

MANILA, Philippines—(UPDATE 2) Senator Manuel “Mar” Roxas is no longer running for president in 2010 and has thrown his support behind the candidacy of Senator Benigno Aquino “Noynoy” Aquino III if he would decide to run for the highest post in the land.

Poor Noynoy, before Cory died, nobody wants him.

Now everybody wants him. I bet Cory is turning to her grave now.

It's obvious Mar doesn't want to run against Noynoy. So he picked the second best position : VP.

All these unity thing is pure crap.

Tuloy pa rin kaya ang kasal ni Mar at Korina, gaya ng tanong ni sir baludoy?

Baka balikan ni Korina si Noynoy para maging First Lady kung sakali, hehehe

Imagine a Bongbong vs Noynoy fight for the presidency...

Imelda Marcos wants son to seek presidency

MANILA, Philippines—Twenty years after the death of her controversial husband, former first lady Imelda Marcos still dreams of a return to power but this time with her son as president.

“Yes, I am egging him ... I am practically pushing him to run for a higher office,” the energetic and immaculately dressed 80-year-old told Agence France-Presse when asked if she wanted Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to lead the country.

The 51-year-old Bongbong, only son of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, has already forged a thriving political career that has been based on his parents’ enduring strengths and alliances.

He served as governor of Ilocos Norte province, his father’s former stronghold, for 12 years and is currently an opposition member of the House of Representatives.

While acknowledging that all mothers are proud of their sons, Imelda said she had many special reasons to boast about hers.

There is speculation that Bongbong will run for the Senate in next year’s national elections, but he has not publicly announced any ambitions to lead the nation of 92 million people.

There is no clear front-runner among the more than a dozen candidates who have declared their intention to succeed President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, who is constitutionally mandated to step down next year.
