Vice President Jejomar Binay has signed his death warrant as far as politics is concerned when he defended his son, Makati Mayor Junjun, who has been depicted as “abusive” in the Dasmariñas Village incident.
The elder Binay, considered unbeatable for the presidency in 2016, is now dead politically.
Former Sen. Freddie Webb, then very popular among the masses because of his exploits in the basketball court with a promising television career, suffered a humiliating defeat when he ran for reelection after he said his son Hubert, one of the respondents in the Vizconde massacre case, was innocent.
The killings that happened in June 1991 was then dubbed the “crime of the century.”
The public perception was that Hubert and his coaccused were guilty, but a Supreme Court ruling later said they were innocent.
If Freddie Webb, whose son’s guilt had yet to be determined by the courts, got the ire of the public for defending Hubert, how much more Jejomar Binay whose son’s behavior was captured on video!
Vice President Binay said his son deserved “a little courtesy” from the security guards at the Dasmariñas gate who didn’t let his convoy through.
It was a classic statement of entitlement. It reminds us of then Senate President Jose Avelino who defended abuse of power by politicians in his time with the infamous statement, “What are we in power for?”
    * * *
The Binay children, Mayor Junjun and Senator Nancy, had the security guards detained by the Makati police for hours.
Those guards belong to the tsinelas-wearing masa that put the Binays in office.
Junjun and Nancy have apparently forgotten the humble beginnings of their father.
Jejomar was a poor boy who grew up in the red light district at the boundary of Pasay and Makati cities. The place is gone now.
If you believe old-timers’ tales, one story goes that as a young boy, the then-mayor allegedly washed bed pans for some ladies of the night.
    * * *
The Makati police say the guards were not arrested but willingly went with them to the station.
Who are they trying to fool?
A police “invitation” to the station is tantamount to an arrest without a warrant.
A civilian who doesn’t accept the “invitation” is liable to get roughed up or shot.

Mala Arroyo ang nakawan, from apo to anak, kanya kanyang nakaw.

The memory of the Filipino electorate is short, unfortunately.

If we all remember the past then no Enrile, Marcos, Durano, Farinas etc would have been elected ever.

The Dasma incident is nothing for Binay. His political machinery at the grassroots level is very good. Ninja yan.

Ang alam ko itong insidente eh popular lang sa netizens, siguro up to 3rd saling dila. Pero karamihan ng masa baka unaware pa sa insidente or di alam What's the big deal.

Lokohin ng politiko ngayon, after ilang years magpapauto ulit.

Sa Pagkaalam ko, pag Christmas day din, umiikot yan while most political elite spend time with their families. Nararamdaman siya ng mga masa.

Actually, at 71 years of age... medyo old and bad grass na siya. Sana lang he doesn't have the longevity genes of Enrile and Imeldific.

I actually agree. He'll be the next president unless another Pnoy circumstance comes along.

But I also agree that coup d'état is in the offing on his presidency.

And that is why Pnoy needs to dig up as much dirt as he can from local politics. The Napoles issue, I believe, is just the tip of the iceberg. May lalabas pang mas karumaldumal diyan, and I sincerely hope that it wakes up all Pinoys across all social classes and gives us an election where citizens will vote wisely.

In the meantime, the public needs to stop allowing themselves to be played by the PR machinery of the opposition. Pnoy is not perfect, but he is the only President that is doing something to clean up the system. And to me, that is what matters the most.

More Pinoys approved, trusted VP Binay than PNoy in Q4 of 2013 — Pulse Asia
    January 13, 2014 12:42pm

More Filipinos approved and trusted Vice President Jejomar Binay than President Benigno Aquino III during the last quarter of 2013, according to a recent Pulse Asia survey.

The survey, conducted from December 8 to 15, 2013, showed both Aquino and Binay registering majority approval and trust ratings. However, Aquino's ratings declined while Binay's went up.

Aquino’s approval rating went down from 79 in September to 73 in December, while his trust rating plunged from 76 in September to 74 in December.

Binay, on the other hand, got an approval rating of 80 in December, which was up three notches from 77 in September. His trust rating also went up to 77 in December from 74 in September.

Malacañang has yet to comment on the latest survey, but in an earlier interview, Presidential Communications Operations Office head Herminio Coloma Jr. told GMA News Online that it is not “appropriate” to compare the two.

“The magnitude and depth of the President’s responsibilities are of a higher and different order from those of the Vice President,” he said.

“It must also be pointed out that the incumbent Vice President is a member of the President’s Cabinet and therefore shares in the responsibilities of carrying out the Philippine Development Plan,” Coloma added.

The survey used 1,200 adults all over the country and has an error margin of ± 3 percent at 95 percent confidence level. — Amita O. Legaspi/KBK, GMA News
