Lapus: ‘DepEd has no budget for toilets’

MANILA, Philippines –The Department of Education (DepEd) does not have the additional budget to construct toilets for public schools, Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said Monday.

Earlier media reports said that, aside from classroom shortages, many schools also lack proper sanitation facilities.

Lapus explained that the DepEd prioritizes the construction of classrooms and that that the standard design for classrooms does not include toilets.

However, some schools that double as evacuation or relocation sites have kitchen and toilet facilities, said Lapus. He added that the design of these buildings make them “flood-proof.”

Lapus urged local government units as well as private groups involved in “adopt a school projects” to help fund the construction of toilets for public schools.

He also suggested that lawmakers should use their “pork barrel” funds to build toilets for public schools.
This is another classic example of another moronic statement coming from a high government official, and it seems we have a surplus nowadays.

Wrong values are inculcated at such a young age.

Building school without RESTROOM means standard!
Just like saying, ooh!!! it's okey to built a 60 floor building w/o elevator.

    You got that right.

A few years ago our company volunteered to renovate a dilapidated room of an elementary school in Quezon City part of our regualr outreach programs. Out of our own hands, our own pocket, we succeeded in rebuilding and furnishing that room into a modest library. During the turnover ceremonies, nandoon pa yung ama ni Mike Defensor at guest at kung anu-anong promises sinasabi.

Today, that school is no longer operating. Nobody enrolling. Only the library and staff offices and a few other rooms are fit for occupancy. The rest of the school buildings are safety hazards.

Before our company selects a school to help, we consider several others. One of those we sadly had to turn down is in Binangonan. The school is basically a SHANTY with squallid surroundings! It'll break your heart so see the kids trying to fit inside a room whose ceiling is barely 6 feet from the dirt floor. Shifting pa ang classes. The teachers even offered us somthing to eat but I had to decline. Di ko masikmura ang paligid... and yet those brave teachers and persistent pupils had to deal with this on a daily basis. I have a picture of this school somewhere in my collection.

another unbelievably moronic statement coming from the wise people in our government. . .perfect in the company of raul manglapus ("ungas") and jesli lapus ("no budget for cr")

We are not going to sacrifice the lives of our soldiers to defend you.

    -presidential peace advicer esperon

    tsk tsk tsk

Another moronic statement...
