Strictly speaking, a pick up truck is one kind of truck. Not all trucks are pick up trucks as some don't have a bed on the back.

A pick up has an open bed. Vans, and panel trucks that are enclosed, are trucks, but not pick ups. The so-called "sports utility vehicles" or SUVs that are so popular now are trucks too in the literal sense, since the're mounted on truck chassis.
I think the word "truck" is being used differently in many countries...
But to my understanding, it is a vehicle platform which generally needs larger wheels and stronger chassis....so as to withstand any road conditions. Given this definition the following can be considered a truck:
-vans
-commercial types that ferry goods
-lorry or the haulers
-firetrucks
A pick up is a truck with an open bed at the back.
Probably in the Philippines, the one that would muddle the definition are the commercial types with a dropside bed at the back and a passenger cabin in front. Are they pick ups?
As a side note, an SUV (as originally intended) is basically a passenger truck.

They're still pick-ups... though it gets confusing when you apply the term to a six-wheel cab-forward truck...
It gets worse when you consider the non-ladder-frame pick-ups out there, like the AD-Resort.. since the AD-Resort is not, technically, a truck, being a monocoque vehicle, but is still a pick-up...![]()
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
They are all called truck, but a pick up is a "light truck" in some cases they are also called a rig.
