    AUV Asian Utility Vehicle

Toyota is an Asian brand, so technically it's an Asian car pero the term Asian Utility Vehicle is just a coined term. Since AUV are predominantly sold in Asia particularly 3rd world countries in Asia thus the term. It is designed for use in the Asian market as a vehicle that could seat 8-10 people, could haul goods and be used for commercial purposes. We are now seeing Adventures, Revos and Crosswinds being exported to Africa.
A car can be an AUV and an SUV at the same time. The new CRV is one. Downgraded ang interior compared to its US counterpart. Iba ang seats. It was made to fit 10 people for tax purposes. It was declared an AUV dito sa Pinas pero sa iba miniSUV pa rin.

The term AUV (ASIAN UTILITY VEHICLE) is applied to vehicles such as the original Toyota Tamaraw, Ford Fiera, and Mitsu Cimarron developed in the 70s . These are vehicles which were meant to be Utility vehicles whose main purpose was to haul people and goods, in as affordable a manner as possible..... a far cry from what we see today, where modern AUVs are almost at par with SUVs in terms of interior comfort and features(If you compare the current XUVi to My 96 Pajero, Mas ok Pa yung XUVi eh  ). Kung nakakita kayo ng Gen1 na Tamaraw (NOT the Fx, yung nauna pa) talaga namang Spartan na spartan ang dating.

This term was coined in the Philippines to describe such vehicles.
