Napansin ko lang madami ang CUV supposed to be na 4x2 naman ang drivetrain. Is the ride height really more important for a softroader or is it the 4x4? Ano sa tingin ninyo?

most cSUVs 4wd systems are just assist-systems, not a true 4wd..
ang alam ko lang may full-fleged 4wd system are the pajero IO(pero up to 200 model lang) suzuki jimny, vitara, pajero JR, pajero mini..(di ko sure to-->) escape(kasi alam ko may lock at low mode)..
ang x-trail di yan full-fledge 4wd kasi walang 4L, pero may 4H-lock mode..
tsaka kaya mataas sila than your average car kasi to attract buyers na gusto ng mataas na sasakyan, pero "parang kotse" parin ang ride....yan ang di maibibigay lalo na ng most full-fledge 4x4s...for small flood and dirt-road reasons mostly
The Escape is more a soft roader than an off roader, it uses a computer controlled 4wd system and runs as a FWD until slipping is detected.
Also not mentioned as true 4x4's are the Montero Sport, Fortuner, Alterra, and Everest.
Ride height vs. added traction of 4wd or AWD? The answer depends on what surfaces the vehicle will be used for.
For local roads which look like the moon [only worse], the added clearance does help even without the added surefootedness of 4wd/AWD.
For ice/snow/sand and other loose surfaces, you will appreciate having power on all four wheels even without gobs of ground clearance.
Of course I will always prefer to have both good road clearance and a good 4wd system.

All Pajero's...
Montero Sport, iO, Jr. or Mini still have the 4wd stick beside the tranny even Deli's... Some are equipped with Super Select 4WD or Easy Select 4wd. The new D:5 is very doubtful... It seems like it has the same 4wd system with the Outlander. But it did finish the Dakar and was used as their support team.

Full Time like Permanent 4WD na sya? or AWD like other soft roaders?
full-time is permanent awd(in short, another name for all-whee drive)
2 lang naman ang gen. classification ng 4wd -> part-time at full-time 4wd...

The last Io's were indeed fitted with a simplified (single range) full time 4wd system. Since it's a single range system, there was no more need for a selector lever.
Let's try to get back on topic.![]()

for our family, having bought at least 3 4wd or 4x4 in the past, hindi na importante yun 4x4 basta importante ride height. hindi naman gano nagagamit. even in places like Baguio and nearby provinces di naman kelangana talaga.
kaya right now, pag bumibili kami parati 4x2 na lang pero importante yun mataas bec. of our road conditions.
if you don't venture off the road, a 4x2 would suffice.
but once you mix in some wet sand & mud and some hill-climbing... you'll be needing 4wd then.
Maraming salamat sa lahat ng nag-reply. Now I think I know why HOnda didn't bother launching a 4x4 MT in the new CRV. That being said, medyo adventurous ako kaya siguro mas maganda kung meron para I can go to the mountains and remote beaches any time.
ko, i prefer 4x4 vans..than suvs..sayang walang local 4x4 vans dito nilabas potent enough for my needs ( starex 4x4 is weak,e...) kaya ako sa imported-converted nabaling...
The Starex 4x4 CRDi has adequate power.Kinda pricey, though.

if city driving lang, no need for 4x4. ride height is more important dahil sa baha. ok sana ang 4x4, kaso add pa ng additonal 300k just for 2 additional grips na baka once in a lifetime mo lang magamit..
Hindi lang yun. Order basis pa siya so may waiting time na pwedeng tumagal.
nga pala, in most cases, most 4wd rides have bigger/stronger ang pang-ilalim then its 4x2 counterparts...
un nga ang prob dun sa hyundai starex 4x4 na yun.. pero at 1.3M, kasing price na siya halos ng fortuner and everest, most cSUVs, montero sport.. 3-6 months lang naman waiting time nun,e...
iba parin ang space ng van than SUVS
