I would suggest doing it after the 5,000 km oilchange para regular na siya. And also if you're dealer offers a synthetic oil then stick to the brand to maintain your warranty. Some dealers will void your car warranty if you'll use an oil not recommended by the manufacturer and this includes synthetics. Goodluck.

    yawk,

    yAwK,

It is unfortunate that in our country, while a vehicle is still under warranty, we have no choice of engine oils, except those that are promoted by the dealers, else you will get into trouble in cases of warranty claims.

So to be in the safe side, IMO, you should move up to synthetic oils only after the warranty expires.

Some synth oil users have mentioned to break-in the engine completely before switching to synthetic, ie, after 5k miles or about 8k km. This will give the pistons time to properly "seat" before you introduce a low friction oil.

Some german cars use synth as their first-fill but it's usually a thinner oil to help in the break-in process.

    wombat,
No problem using mineral again. What's your ride?
Why do you want to switch back to mineral?

it's true duon sa 2002 Field Master ko. after break-in, 1K, synthetic oil na ginamit ng casa tapos after 10k na ang balik for change oil. so bali 2 change oil, sa miniral, ang katumbas nung 1 chnage oil sa synthetic.

I'd like to have shorter interval between change oils, besides mas cheaper ang mineral and I didn't notice much difference with synthetics.

you sure have a good way at looking at the bright side all the time    naiinspire ako sa pananaw niyo sa buhay.

I read in one article about a guy in the US who logged a good 15 years sa kanyang car (which I forgot what model was it)...inabot na ng dalawang round ng ikot ang kayang kilometer reading..... whose engine was never even brought down (even palit piston ring never) in that entire span of time....."I NEVER change type of oil but did regular change of oil and filters at the proper intervals"

For his car model the interval of change oil was 3,000km. His oil was mineral base and nothing fancy (non-synthetic).

Bottomline, he said that putting different oils in the engine would just make the engine behave differently everytime....kasi daw iba-iba ang oil properties between types/brands even if they are classified to be the same class.

    that's his 2 cents.

get the recommended specs for your engine (sa manual), usually its what the casa uses for your ride.

mineral to synthethic
