My bad. I did not realize that it is similar after scouring the whole pages. The used of the word PDA is somewhat confusing to me.
Saan ba makakabili ng software gps ng philipines balak ko kasing bumili ng gps yng pang car. Ang hirap kasing mag hanap ng software . Garmin ang balak kng bilhin GPS MAP 276C. Thanks....![]()
I have been using GPS on my PDA for more than a year now. I use a GPS receiver with bluetooth paired to my PDA Phone, and I use MapKing Asia as my GPS software. I think it is the only none proprietary software with detailed map of Metro Manila. For the rest of the country, I use the software for Garmin devices, but since upgrading to a WM5.0 device, I can't get the Garmin software to work.
I just looked at the Garmin website and it seems that the 276C is more apt for marine navigation. It does have a selection of roadmaps (one includes the Philippines) but the site says it's a basemap ... meaning, you'll get the major roads only, excluding the smallest and shortest of streets. And once the map (Americas, Europe or Pacific) is loaded by the dealer, you can't alter it. So if you're going to use it in the Philippines, you can't use in the US. It may not be a big deal to you if you only use it in the Philippines ... but one more problem I see is that if the map can't be altered, then it means that it can't be updated in the future.
I wish it was, pero mukhang hindi eh. According to their site, it's a one-off installation. Until maybe someone cracks it.
This basemap comes factory installed with the StreetPilot III, StreetPilot 2610, StreetPilot 2650, GPSMAP 76C, GPSMAP 76CS, GPSMAP 276C, GPSMAP 376C, GPSMAP 396, and the GPSMAP 296.
GARMIN mapping units come with built-in, permanent basemaps that cannot be altered. These basemaps come in a variety of global designations (ie., Atlantic basemap). Please see your local dealer when purchasing a GARMIN mapping unit to ensure that you are purchasing one with a basemap that's appropriate for your location and needs. Factory-installed basemaps cannot be altered.
The Pacific Autoroute Highway basemap includes Asia, Australia, and Oceania, and covers an area from E60 to E180 Longitude, S60 to N75 Latitude.
The standard map coverage includes:
- Oceans, rivers, lakes and major streams
- Principal cities and smaller cities and towns
- Major and principal highways, regional arterials, and some local roads
- Political boundaries (state and international borders)
- Large Urban areas (greater than 50K)
- More detailed coastline with many smaller islands
- Railroads
- Airports
Napaka restrictive naman nyang Garmin. When I was still using the Garmin software in my PDA, I was able to put in a World Basemap, and installed additional location specific maps with minor roads and POIs downloaded from the internet.
Maybe the one above can also be installed with additional maps. You don't actually need the basemap if you have an accurately plotted digital map.
Baka Write-Once-Memory ang ginamit sa mga models na 'yon, if that's the right term for it. Maganda ang routing algorithm ng Garmin, pero di siya gaano mabenta dito sa UK. Tulad ng Magellan, mahal kasi siya kumpara sa ibang brands.
OK ba ang Mapking? There's another thread where someone is asking for opinions about it. Ikaw lang alam kong gumagamit ng Mapking dito sa tsikot.
MapKing is the only GPS software I know that have a detailed map of Metro Manila, albeit, not that updated, but still better than nothing. It also has detailed maps of most Asian cities, with a lot of POIs.
