In an automatic transmission, switching overdrive button in city driving consumes less fuel... how true? just heard this from a drinking session..baka kasi lasing na yung nagsabi he.he..

Switching O/D button on or off? But that's besides the point.... mapa city or highway, turning the O/D on saves fuel. Yun nga lang mas konti ang saved gas sa city driving compared sa highway. Sa bundok naman (same as towing or having a heavier than usual payload), mawawala lang yung frequent switching ng gears kung O/D off (thus, having more available power) but this doesn't necessarily mean na makaka-save ka ng gas.
marwen,
it won't matter too much whether you drive in manila with O/D on or off... no way are you going to hit the rev limiter or go to fourth gear in stop-and-go traffic (assuming we're talking about slowly moving traffic here)
Switching the O/D is the same as shifting to 5th gear on manual trans. It's translates to lower engine rpm ad lower fuel consumption.![]()
seriously.. dko talaga maintindihan un OD na yan.. basta naka on na lang palagi un sa amin

marwen,
just keep the OD on by default... there aren't really many instances in typical city driving when you need to switch it off
Biggest misconception kasi dito sa Pinas, akala ng mga local drivers na yung O/D ay isang parang mystical super turbo over charger that will give their vehicles huge amounts of power (eh, kasi nga naman OVERDRIVE ang pangalan) at the expense of fuel consumption.
Feeling turbo boost ni Knight Rider ba. Hehehe.

correct si otep! My dad used to think that way. I told him that its otherwise. But I personally feel that with O/D off, the truck is higher revving, thus delivers more power.
