anyway, i have kasi a 2004 starex svx with intercooler turbo and just got it last december 2005. i read the manual and its says that i have to wait for the turbo to cool down before turning off the engine. but it doesn't says how to cool it down? so far, i've been using it for out of town trips during weekends and i'm quite worried everytime i'm turning off the engine. tsikoteers, how will i know if the turbo has cooled down na?

depende, may used, mga 1.5 thou, pero new ones may 3 thou up..depende din sa brand... sabihin mo turbo timer sa banawe, ok na un...pero may babaguhin sa electricals mo most likely...pero protection sa turbine ang purpose nito,e... mayroon sa kabilang site na turbo timer, pa-install mo nalang...

Idle with the aircon off and everything, except with only the engine running.

This is how a turbo timer would look like. There are many different brands and model out there. The one on the pic is the one made for the Fortuner.

If you're just driving in the city, just don't drive too hard or hit the high rpms when you're near your destination already then just letting the car idle for around 20-30secs (even with the a/c on as this has no effect on the turbo) should be fine.

If you've driven long or hard, idle for around 1.5 to 2 mins.

There are some car alarms that come with a turbo timer feature.

I was just thinking... vehicles with turbos aren't the best choice for persons learning to drive since they may not get the gas-clutch coordination correct, thus leading to stalled engines and throwing the mandated turbo cooldown requirement out the window.

nope, it's still based on leaving the engine on for cool down * neutral. so if you engage it in 1st gear and let go of the clutch, mamamatay talaga yung engine.

here's my greddy aftermarket turbo timer:

ARB, magkano kaya ang turbo timer na yan? pwede din ba sa trooper (4jg2) ito? hindi ba magkakaproblema yung alarm (cobra) pag nilagyan ng turbo timer? thanks.

Actually, it only becomes a problem if the engine is turned off hot and stays off. If it stalls and is started again right away, then there's no problem...

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

Okay, thanks for the clarification, ssaloon. And thanks, niky, for the tip on immediately restarting the engine.

toast seals, burn bearings...actually di naman agad masisira ang turbo mo kung di ka mag cool down. di lang magtatagal ang buhay nito. and just like what vinj said. pag city-city lang you seldom get to run your turbo. sa highway naman well you don't usually go from 120kph to 0 kph in 5 secs. syempre when approaching, say a gas station along the highway, eh mag slow down ka muna in effect nag cocool down narin ang turbo nito.

Would it help kung synthetic oil ang gagamitin kung naka turbo because of its wide range of viscosity e.g. SAE 0-30 or 5-40.
