    hi all,

hope someone can help. my old school 1990 corolla xl 1.3L is no longer giving me 10 kilometers/liter mileage.. given todays gas prices i really need this to be more efficient again...my odometer is now 165,000 kms

nowadays i am only able to do 8.2 kilometers/liter only (same type of city driving as before)... what could be causing this? I had it tuned up and replaced some leaky gaskets and even replaced the fuel pump, but i still get the same gas mileage....

    should i :
    -replace the clutch?
    -clean the carbureator?
-change the (3-yr old) tension wires?
    -overhaul the engine?
-what could be the other causes?

hope someone can help...i really like this car.

    Thanks!

Well, sa carb kasi medyo mahirap manantsa... Sa engine, have a compression check... Vacuum line leaks can attribute to that as well...

How about the tranny, clutch etc, kelan nacheck?>

    try the basic's first.

    - check spark plugs
    - check air filter

aside from that, you might need to get the overhaul. your engine parts might be worn out ie. pistons, cams etc. leading to improper burn of fuel.

P.S. oh that reminds me, you're not leaking gas from your gas line are you? I had a problem with my civic before, I didn't notice how long it was going on but I was slowly leaking gas from a cracked fuel line, it wasn't spilling out, but it was dripping slowly.

    should i :
-replace the clutch? dont replace it if its still not sliding.. just replace the fluid
-clean the carbureator? every 3 months you clean it with carb cleaner.. spray it ..
-change the (3-yr old) tension wires? dont change it if its ok..
-overhaul the engine? No need maybe its just a worned valve steam seals.. check and hear your engine if still on its condition..
    another possible culprit..

-Carburator needs to be overhaul 800php for the kit.. replace jets , gaskets.. etc..
-Use NGK stock spark plugs the big one for 1.3 engine ( check your old plugs kung okey bah and try to check and click this
    LINK >>> http://tsikot.yehey.com/forums/showt...ght=sparkplugs

    - Check carburator tubes if mayroon leak.. replace it
    - Use Petron Touring 20w-50

    - Proper Carburator Tuned A/F mixture , engine tuned up and distributor timing ( use a timing Light)

Are you sure hindi mas-matrapik nowadays?

Have you tried leaving 15 minutes earlier than usual?

Do you feel any "palya"? Have a compression test.

Besides what they mentioned above, check your tires inflation too. Poor tire inflation can lead to decreased mileage too.

Replace plugs, wires, cap and rotors. When was the last time you replace it?
    Replace air filter,fuel filter.
    check air/fuel ratio.
    Check valve clearance.
    Check tire pressure
    Easy on gas pedal

    This forum ROCKS!

thank you very much for all your help.

looks like i will start with the carb since i dont think this was cleaned in several years....the engine sounds smooth but a compression test is a good idea, clutch is not sliding just yet, my tires are inflated at 28 but i will try 30, traffic wise is the same since i only drive during non-peak hours, i just had a tune up just 8,000kms ago but i will have to check the type of plugs that were used, will also check the last time the air filter was replaced...

i forgot to mention that all the valves and seals were replaced 9 months ago...

will get to work and let you know how things turn out....i will be using all the advice here and make sure i cover everything one by one starting from the basics....

    Cheers guys!!

    guys,

Finally got my carb cleaned at Kamuning, had a tune up as well....so far after my first full tank of city driving (same conditions as before)

I now get 9.7 kms/liter from my previous 8.2kms!!! for my 1990 xl corolla. i am now on my 2nd full tank and hope to see the same improved mileage again!!

    thanks for all the inputs!

Corolla Gas milege got worse
