    Hi all!

I have been using a 10 year old 1.3L carb type corolla more often now, (mas matipid kasi sa gas ) regular stop-go trapik, driven 5-8kms on the average.

For so long havent really put much attention to the oil used. Regular oil change every 5000 kms/3 months naman pero iba iba brand at viscosity (all mineral based). Now I decided to shift to a particular brand na maganda para naman tumagal pa yung buhay ng car. Ano po ang suggestion nyo na maganda gamiting motor oil for my old car? Shift to synthetic based?

    Thanks in advance po.

I know this has been discussed before and I have read a lot of suggestions already, but most of those post are at least a year old. So I would like to start a new thread. Hope you don't mind mods

Nice! Actually, Im due for oil change today. I might pass by your shop later today. Balak ko ipa flush muna (I read this is good when shifting from mineral to synthetic?) bago i change oil. How much do I add po?

i wouldn't suggest flushing. we normally don't do it unless there is gunk buildup inside the engine.

You will just be wasting your money if you shift to synthetic engine oil. Unless you drive extremely or engage in competitive motoring, your engine will just be fine with good-quality mineral-based oil.

Don't be caught with the marketing hype on synthetic oils.

It's an unnecessary expense (if there is no gunk buildup inside the engine), IMO.

if you change your engine oil and oil filter "RELIGIOUSLY" every 5,000kms, no need for an engine flush. the fresh oil will more than suffice.

yep... what for if there is no dirt to flush out. dagdag kita lang yan if people insist on flushing oil. also normally flushing will eat away at the seals since they are petrolium based. the best flush would be a new filter and cheap oil before putting the good quality oil inside.

re: the benefits of fully synthetic oil, read up on it... madami kayo malalaman na differences between that and regular mineral oil.

With a fully synthetic oil... even after 10K km the oil still feels light / thin - and is still relatively "clean".

But with mineral oil, it is more dirtier and heavier (even after just 5K km)

if you use sythetic oil, do you need to change the filter every 5K Kms?

although fully synthetic oil can be used up to 10t kms, i normally extend usage only up to 6,500 kms (4M40 diesel engine and mivec petrol engine).

for my 1967 car, I only intend to use mineral oil.

Been using Castrol mineral on the 69 Beetle, changed every 6 mos. No problems. I know there are "high mileage" oils but I doubt if they would make a diff.

I shifted to Semi synthetic from regular mineral oil.. What i did is that I flush all by using a regular mineral oil before I shift to Semi Syntehtic ( i know it was just a waste of money but that was just left over from the past oil change ) .. I have been using Semi Synthetic oil and I was satisfied to it .. it has long last than the normal mineral oil and it improves my engine.. I observed normal mineral oil getting black w/ just a 2T kms while my semi synthetic still clear until 6T kms.. I change my fuel filter when it gets to 5T kms and still it gave me smooth ride.. I do even put oil treatment.. My ride is a carb corolla and it gave me more fuel effiencient.. a little fun to drive and I hope it would live for a longer years. I've heard that old cars from 10 years to up is not applicable to use fully synthetic (Not that sure).. so I just use the Semi one.. MY friendly IMO

    speedyfix,
i read the label of those flushing oils they sell in True Value. it had a CAS number so i looked it up on the internet. apparently those flushing oils are "recycled petroleum products," whatever that is..

i've read a lot of articles on using KEROSENE in a 1:1 or 1:2 mix with the used oil, for engine flushing. while i agree that flushing is not strictly necessary, on cars with HLA's such as 7G galants, DOHC mazda 323's and 626's, flushing supposedly can clean out the gunk inside which causes that horrible HLA tapping.

since you have that promo and all, how much would be the add-on cost of doing a flush as well?

what type of flushing solution is it? do you just add it to the existing oil then run for a while then drain before putting in the new oil? if so, no extra charge na
