Cedia? You sure? Never seen a Cedia Lancer roam the metro streets, let alone "madalas". Pizza Lancers, quite a few. And mostly the EL versions. Some GLX versions but if my memory serves me right that has the 1.5L carb engine. Clearly, AE101s, AE111s and the multitudes of Vios are still the dominant taxi fleet car. All 3 of which have 1.3L engines.
The Altis, aside from being more spacious, is a Corolla. And since time immemorial base model Corollas have been used as taxis so it's probably a case of "nakasanayan". Plus some cab riders are picky and always want the best cabs. I personally avoid AE101s because taxi drivers don't maintain cars well and at the age that AE101s are at right now, they're only decent if well maintained. Of course, during rush hours, beggars can't be choosers.
Anything smaller than a subcompact isn't fit for taxi use because you can never avoid running into a passenger with loads of stuff, or loads of passengers at one time. Plus there's supposedly a rule that hatchbacks aren't allowed to be used as taxis.
