The VX220 has been setting pulses racing since it was launched back in 2000, it’s fast, stylish and tremendous fun, and now there’s a new addition to the line-up. Released under the banner of Vauxhall’s new performance brand, VXR, the latest VX is faster, sleeker and even more insanely grin-inducing than the standard version, in fact, the VXR220 is set to be one of the best drives on the road.

Based on the VX220, VXR220 features the 2.0 litre turbo engine with a power upgrade to 220 bhp, thanks to a free-flow air filter, a hybrid turbo and a reprogrammed ECU. Translating this wickedly entertaining power on to the tarmac is a set of five-spoke Speedline alloys, finished in satin black and shod with Yokohama A048R tyres. Featuring a dynamic mix of 195/45R16s at the front and 225/35R17s at the back, the VXR220 sticks to the road perfectly, making the most of its nimble agility. This all works together to ensure the most engaging driving VX yet. Performance figures back this up with a spectacular sprint time to 60 mph from standstill in a breathtakingly fast 4.2 seconds and a top speed in excess of 150 mph.

yup it beats the 360 modena by 0.1s in the 0-60 mph, but say bye-bye to the opel when the modena reaches its top speed of 189 mph

the thread title OPEL-FERRARI RIVALRY is ridiculous and incredulous!!! No such thing exists!!! Opel is not in the class of Ferrari in terms of performance, amenities, and clientele (just compare the pricing, dude).

well i was gonna say that too.. :P

someone claiming an astra beats the heck out of a civic sir (and subsequently shown to be double-logging in), it's not surprising that a thread like this is titled as such.

The problem with the VXR220 is that it doesn't have the steering feel and handling of the Lotus Elise it is based on... in terms of bragging rights, it is faster than the Elise in all ways... but in terms of road feel and driveability, it loses.

It's still a very nice car, though.

Around the track the Opel/Vauxhall can take on Ferraris. Top speed's not an issue in tracks and in the real world.

The Speedster/VXR220 is heavier than the Elise due to more creature comforts.

The RX-8 is leagues different from the VXR220's 0-60 is 4.2sec while the RX-8 is 6sec.

If you want a fast 2 seater convertible that's liveable as a daily drive I think the VXR220 is a good buy provided if you dont care much for "brand names" and get it in here cheaply.

The VX220 daw is torture on rough roads... which is all we have here. The Elise is supposed to be more liveable... PLUS it's a Toyota engine and gearbox... should last longer. :D

Comparing the USDM Elise vs the UKDM VX220 is a bit unfair dont you think? Dapat UKDM Elise vs UKDM-only VX220. :D

The Elise outsold the VX220 in the UK because it's a Lotus. So Vauxhaul had to offer better car for the same pricetag. Lotus responded by offering the Elise 190 in the UK but it's more expensive.

The VX220 turbo sports a 2.0L turbo engine producing 200bhp. It's heavier than the Elise due to the airbag, abs, soundproofing, turbo and other creature comforts so it'll be more than a track car. That's alright though cause it can do 0-62mph in low 4s. I'd be hard pressed to a find a stock car that can do that at the price point it is offered.

Yes, but the latest issue of Autocar noted that the VXR220 is kinda stiff for road use... also, the steering isn't as good as the Elise. Maybe there's some secret recipe that the Lotus engineers hid from the Vauxhall boys, or maybe they sabotaged their development program... :p

The VX220 IS a very nice car... but it's like trying to decide between a Maserati or a Ferrari... or a Lexus IS200 and the Toyota Altezza version... the original will always be cooler. :D
