my car is at a dealer again for service and this time they ran out of the sedan loaners. i thought i have to wait for one to return, instead they loaned me something a little bigger- infiniti QX56:

5.6l v8, 315hp, 390lb.ft. torque, 8 passenger, navigation, bluetooth, dvd, bose, backup camera, adjustable and memory seats, steering, pedals and outside (power folding)mirrors, 18-inch chrome wheels, chrome, leather, wood trim, abs, stability, traction control, power liftgate, etc....

"i just need a loaner car, not a tank." looks like infiniti designed this suv to constantly remind you its size. first thing i noticed when i approach this suv was the door handle which was about an 8 by 2.5 inch chrome brick. getting in requires stepping on the step bar and pulling myself up, just like getting on a truck. once seated i got a sense of the length of the vehicle, the size of the side mirrors, and the height of my outside view. it felt as if i am about to drive a bus.

the qx barely fits my parking spot. note the plumbing above nearly hitting the roof rails. ill add more pics and feedback later.

I just read your FX is being serviced again...Are there problems with it or just routine service...

the last visit was for body work and overspray, including replacing cloudy door trim or sash. i really didnt have to, but i only decided to have it replaced since it is still under warranty. the parts just arrived this week so i picked up my fx instead of waiting last time and brought it back again to the dealer recently.

this qx makes me feel my fx is compact and practical

my service rep told me they don't normally loan these out, but they have 2 units in case. yup they loaned me a 53k (msrp) vehicle .

did i mention this thing is big? here's another parking pic next to our neighbor's civic.i researched this vehicle's dimensions and found it to be about 2 inches wider, 6 inches higher, and 18 inches longer than a honda pilot. surprisingly, this rig is easy to drive. i was expecting lots of adjustments when i took it out of the dealership, but a few blocks later, it just felt like something ive driven before. it feels slower than my fx due to higher driving position, but never struggles in pickup. reviews indicate that the qx's 0-60 is in the low 7's! no sweat merging on the freeway to 70mph, not that it cant get faster, traffic built up ahead. passing and turning is a breeze, though you can feel its size. i love the grunt and low pitched hum from the exhaust reminding again that this thing has a v8. the ride is firmer than my family's pilot, but not as firm as my fx. more pics and features later if im awake after drinking :burp:

earlier today, i was able to take the qx out on a clear freeway. with six passengers and me and about a good load of groceries, the qx effortlessly got on the freeway and cruised at around 80. as long as the road is smooth, the ride is smooth and very quiet even with the "hum" coming from the v8.

    here's some cab pics.

lots of passenger room as expected. easy to get to the second row. access to the third row requires folding either side of the second row (40/20/40), which was easy thanks to the springing action once the seats are folded. the third row is tight only on the headroom due to the stadium seating (a few inches higher than the second row).
