Guys, thanks for your tips. I decided to go for an 04 Patrol, and chose gasoline over diesel. It appears the maintenance cost of diesel engine in the long run will probably even out the cheaper cost of diesel versus unleaded fuel. I was lucky enough to get a really fresh unit, with just 35k mileage, and an interior that still smells like new car, with hardly any sign of wear and tear even in the typical areas where I would expect a pre-owned vehicle to show its age.
Apparently, the car dealer I chose is the picky type. All the cars in his portion of Buendia Auto Exchange are pristine and low mileage. Yes it turns out he costs a bit higher than the rest, but then again he really gave me a good deal.
My question is - the ride of 4.5L gas Patrol seems softer, more plush than the diesel version, even if I compare both 4x2 models. Is this an accurate observation? Will appreciate hearing from both gas and diesel owners.
Havent tried the gas but my thought is gas and diesel models carry the same suspension settings. Is your unit still running on stock shocks? What's your tire pressure level?
Try to check also for service records at the Nissan CASA for your car; although most of the gas Patrols are low mileage (due to the fuel consumption), it wont hurt to check with the CASA. I already know of several cases where tampered digital odo jobs were done by second hand dealers by simply doing a records check at the CASA.
congrats on your new patrol! we used to own a different variant of nissan patrol '02 and '03, a diesel and gasoline engine, i dont think theres a difference with the ride of the two, the only thing that i observed was the power.. i like driving the gas variant.. imho the diesel is quite under powered.
