A classmate friend who works in Nissan told me that the company is studying the possibility of bringing in the new Nissan Terrano. It is a rebadged Dacia Duster that is currently selling a lot of models in Europe right now. First of all, it's cheap. in Europe it's as cheap as the Ecosport. Dacia is fast rising Euro car manufacturer with support from Renault and Nissan.
Nissan maybe bringing it here to penetrate the popular pickup - based Diesel SUV market like the Monteros and Fortuners.
Since it's smaller yet diesel. Price can be competitive. One thing though, the dash designs and some amenities are dated as compared to the cars we have today. It was marketed to compete with the likes of the Lada Niva and Jimny which are old SUVs but can very much be useful as a utility vehicle and reliable for day to day driving
Hopefully, they can give a price point for this that won't leech off sales from the new X-Trail.
I was a big fan of the Terrano before and almost acquired one that was owned by a relative. My Dad ultimately said "no" since what was being offered to us was a gasoline-powered Terrano which was, by all accounts, very thirsty for gas.
my dad got a 1990's model of nissan terrano. it's in very good condition it was exported from japan. and some time we drive it in offroad. and it's not a stock model. we change the suspension brake remove some accesories.
