I used to drive a 1997 2-Door GSR M/T

PROS:

1. Frugal 16V SOHC 1.6 Engine
2. Nicely slotted 5 speed manual tranny, but not as nice as the Civic's of the same vintage. You can easily slot through the gears in spirited driving.
3. Good road grip using stock tires but you shouldn't push it to the limit.
4. Relatively minimal modifications required to make it more appealing aesthetically.
5. Low maintenance, so long as you observe the PMS schedules
6. Came with a nice Pioneer HU and CD Changer with steering wheel remote


CONS:

1. Relatively short wheelbase
2. NVH not up to par with Civics or Toyotas of the same vintage
3. Could've used an independent rear suspension rather than a solid beam axle
4. Despite its coupe looks, it doesn't give you a coupe performance (in both speed and handling)
5. Due to its age (10 yr old car), you have to pay special attention to its front suspension components which already need replacement.

The GSR uses a rear multilink suspension not a beam axle in the rear and MacPherson struts up front. It's a fairly good handling for what it is which is an econo coupe. The chassis could have handled a better engine like a 4g63 but it was not offered. I currently run 205/40/ZR17 tires on mine, other than the road noise from the tires the set up is great. The cons would be that if you have to carry more than 2 people in a car this is not for you since the back seat is not the roomiest place to be.
